...or at least broke even on. (or thereabouts)

After reading the "I'm done paying Fu*kin Retail !!!!" thread, where some shared their experiences of losing money on purchases (as we all have done)....I was curious of what stories were out there where people made money on the purchases that they later sold....rather it be new or used? In my case.....

Back in '98, I made an impulse buy on a brand new Ibanez JPM P4 for a clearance price of $750 on eBay from dealer Rich @ ibanezrules.com. Used it as my #1 for 4-5 years. As everyone knows, JP left Ibanez in favor of EBMM in '99-'00 and the prices of used Ibanez JPM's increased substantially. Well, I later sold it for $1400....which is by far the best I've ever done.

Besides that, in 2001 I bought a brand new Mesa/Boogie Mark IV head for $1499 and later sold it for $1400 in 2007.....which is a loss I'd take everytime compared to some of the other losses I took on amps I've owned in the past.

Foxrox TZF payed 360ish, sold for over a grand.

Bought an old TS808 for $100 back in 1992 or 93. Sold it for close to $500 a few years ago. Thanks to SRV gear pics and Eric Johnson interviews.

Bought a Mesa IIC+ for $1400 in 2000 and sold it for $3000 in 06. Probably should have kept it though.

Oh yeah, I also bought a bunch of cheap toy at garage sales, painted them up with Zakk Wylde graphics, pretended to be Zakk's friend and came up with a scam to sell Epiphone guitars really cheap if they bought one of the toys. I made thousands.

IIC+ were selling for normal prices before Petrucci and Hammet shot their mouths off about them.

ESP KH 2, I bought for 800$ at my local store. Turned out to be a 95' or something. Sold it for 1200$ on ebay.

I always try to break even reinvest what I spend into future purchases. I picked up a korg x5d for 250 in some sketchy part of town and when I didn't need it anymore it sold for 400+ on feebay.
Also made 75% on my engl e530 which the proceeds went straight into buying my e570 preamp.

man i wish, pretty much none except:

a rickenbacker 480 - bought for 1200 sold it for 1299

Mna, I want you guys to sell my stuff  I seem to always lose money :aww:

Almost everything i make money on is usually sig model guitars, they are usually limited and have better resale than the regular stuff. I will admit i dont sell much sig models on rigtalk but i do sell alot on ebay or some of the other forums.

I lose money on a prs singlecut but if its a limited tremonti tribal i can make alot of cash.
I sold my brothers tremonti tribal that he paid 2200 and got him 3700 for it 4 months later.
Most rig talk people wont buy a sig model but for some strange reason i like alot of sig models and i dont care about playing gigs with them or what people think.

The gibson tradtional goldtop sold for the same price as the slash goldtop but in the used maket it is worth $500 or more.

1981 Gibson v - paid $400 in 1984, sold it for $1400 in 2001
1974 Marshall 50 watt head, paid $500, sold $1200
1976 Marshall 50 watt head, paid $500, sold $950
Lee Jackson XLA 500, bought off Ebay for $325 shipped, took it out of box, cleaned it up, sold it on Ebay for $525.

I usually break even or lose a little bit, but I did buy a 1986 PRS Custom 24 in Vintage Yellow for $1,200 and sold it about 8-10 years later for $5,600.
