List your musical opinions you know make people salty because it isn't their opinion.

- Dimebag was good, nothing amazing, shot to god status by dying, shredding pentatonics and doing divebombs isn't godly
- Most modern metal/rock recordings today sound the same, the singing usually is the indicator of what band you are listening to, not tone etc
- Mordern digital recording techniques save money and time but rarely produce legendary rock albums
- My favorite album by Rush is Power Windows
- Iron Maiden haven't produced a good album since Brave New World
- EVH makes alot of mistakes live and I never liked his tone
- Most revived rock bands from back in the day make crap music now a days
- Too many people buy thousands of dollars on studio equipment and boutique amps... talk about how amazing their gear is... but never have any recordings
- I like gated and verby drums
- My best sounding guitar is a 250$ Les Paul copy with JBs, sounds better than the 1k+ LPs I've played and my friends own

Load is Metallica's best album.

I like Squier VII's better than pretty much any other guitar I've owned or played, including multi-thousand-dollar custom shop guitars from big names.

Line 6 makes nice stuff.

Definitely agree with a lot of this. Most modern rock guitar tones sound the same, but that's kinda true of any era. There are standouts here and there, but for the most part they seem to latch on to a "sound" for a few years.

I'm guilty of not making clips too, but probably should.

Cheap guitars really can be diamonds. Love some of my Squiers more than most other guitars.

Gotta disagree on Dimeback and EVH though!

-Linkin Park really isn't that bad
-Squier guitars are often pretty good with a couple minor upgrades.
-William Duvall is a great singer
-Vernon Reid has good tone
-Jimmy Page is super overrated
-Chris Cornell has the best voice in Rock history
-Lars was the perfect drummer for Metallica
-Alex lifeson's tone sucks
-Sting is a great bassist. So is Paul McCartney
-alder is for single coils only

^ I thought lots of people like Chris Cornell, DuVall, Sting, McMartney? I do.

Tone is not in your hands, your inflection is.
I would rather have my unique sound with cheap gear than someone else's sound with expensive gear.
Chicks can play guitar better that you.

Lots of people hate Duvall and only really know McCartney and Sting for their voices.

Duvall is constantly unfavorably compared to Layne Staley. I've seen him get booed at concerts for nothing more than not being Layne is my best guess.

Here's another, though: Jimmy Page made his biggest contributions to music as an engineer, not a songwriter/guitarist.

Robert Plant's voice gets on my nerves.

- Bar bands:
it's your job to cause people to come to the bar so that the bar has incentive to pay you for a gig.

It's not solely the bar's job. Work with them, but don't get frustrated when they ask "how many people can you bring".

You:
1) have to be good enough that advertising by the bar AND you.. and word of mouth, brings people THAT YOU DON'T KNOW and they spend money at the bar
OR
2) bring lots of people you do know, and they spend money at the bar

Also:
- Beatles: Boring. Good musicians.. boring.

Mastodon is shite.

Lamb of God doesn't sound like Pantera.

Metalcore is still a viable musical style.

Tom Morello is shite.

A catchy pop song is one of the hardest types of music to write.

Pay to play is not a bad thing.

The best Metallica album is Ride the Lightning.

Iron Maiden hasn't released a good album since Powerslave.

The best band to come out of Seattle was Forced Entry.

I'll co-sign all of these.

One of my own to ad, that probably won't go over well on this site considering it isn't remotely guitar related (although it relates to one of the points above):

The-Dream is the most talented musician of the modern era.

-I'll chime in on a few......

-in November of 98' I saw Buckethead open for Primus, and was so fucken blown away by his act and skills, I thought this guy would be the next world conqueror and idolized guitar hero.
-there is no love for Bucket on this forum.
-les Claypool, great player, terrible song writer
-Alex lifeson lost it after 'Power Windows'
-trying to keep your guitars and amps in mint condition after you've bought them new is a joke. Ding and scratch that shit. Your already taking a bath on the resale anyways, and a ding here and scratch there is peanuts in the grand scheme.
-just don't get the relic'd guitar craze. Again, see previous statement and dinging and scratching your shit. Which dings are factory issued?
-Brian Wilson is one of the best songwriters of all time
-single coils and Metal don't mix
-Coroner was the best thrash metal band to come out of the 80's/Tom T Baron was the shit, and nobody gets it.

Buckethead has blown me away on several occasions. One of the single best performers I've ever seen.

Agreed on Les Claypool. Very rarely does a Primus song impress me with its songwriting, and almost every side project has sucked (except Col Claypool's Bucket of Bernie Brains). I think he comes off as an egotistical ass who is trying too hard to seem like he doesn't take himself too seriously.

Relic'd guitars are the epitome of dentist/lawyer TGP style excess and uselessness.

I heard this once in a guitar store, muttered by some ignoramus....

"If I hear Stevie Ray Vaughan play ONE MORE shuffle, Imma kick him in the face!"

I LOL'd

- Lynch is totally overrated and always has been
- Dimebag is totally overrated - the only reason Pantera 'kept metal alive in the 90s' is that the fairweather fans of metal jumped ship, not because Pantera had a cause.
- The Beatles and Zeppelin were super important at time, but their music doesn't stand up to fresh ears today
- Girl guitar players - Orianthi etc are no better than many male players, they just get press 'because she's a cute chick'
- Lita Ford always looked like a drag act.
- Rush suck balls.
- Gear is a massive part of tone, it's not just in the fingers.
- Steampunk guitars look like shit

Oh, and:

- Nickleback aren't bad - it's just cool to hate them

Agree with all of these, Powerslave was their peak before a very slow 20 year decline with a huge dip around the Blaze era haha

Prince was a guitar monster.

Buckethead sucks

Good Death Metal is the absolute best and proficient music in history second to classical

Guns and Roses is the best Rock band ever

And although it is starting to become "popular opinion" Dime's tone always sucked really bad and I fucking hate studio bands like The Red Hot Chili Peppers. (Bands that suck live/Good in studio)

is that the chick licking donuts saying she hates America and Americans?

Ahem....

You might not like the music of the 80s, but Fn BAR BANDS back then had better guitar players than most Nu Metal shit/Modern Rock stuff that I've heard since the 90s. With some exceptions, you didn't have to be a lead player of any kind.

Since the early 90s, guitar tone was SHIT for the most part. Some exceptions of course, Tool and AIC come to mind but for the most part horrid scooped SHIT. Korn....worst fucking tone EVER. "Why don't we plug a metal zone into your bass rig and use that for guitar tone??" Fucking puke.

I can get a better tone out of a 200$ Crate than you can out of your 4K Diezel.

I can get a better tone out of a 200$ Crate than you can out of your 4K Compressed Friedman.

Oops...

No I didn't!

Yes, I did.

Now it's warming I'll do these

- I don't like AC/DC, I respect them and their stripped back approach, that's awsome but every song (dare I say it) sounds very samey. Open A chord riff, then drums, then vocals. And alot of the riffs sound like "Rock School" guitar lesson books for beginners but they make millions off them

- I don't like Guns N Roses, they did nothing for my ears

- The Beatles have never inspired me, they bore my ears

- I am 25 and my recordings are always better than the "know it all" older dudes who bash my recordings. They never seem to be able to "do better," but feel happy enough to list the negatives of mine.

- I get good tones from my JMP-1 Pre-amp and haven no interest in a Kemper/AXE

:D
