so this is a preset i've been messing with recently that takes full advantage of the lexicon pcm 80's stereo surround capabilities. i start by running through a tone press comp, into a rocktron rack interface, which splits the signal out to 2 mono line level signals L/R into my korg DL8000r

i have a nice 6 tap chorus sound in there based on the old ADA STD-1 chorus made famous by allan holdsworth and more recently chris poland. i used the delay time values found in the ADA manual and guided by analogkid/ryan the intellifex genius, reproduced them in the korg, and added an additional short stereo delay in the unit as well to delay the internal chorus slightly.

then i send that into the rocktron's stereo mixer input 1,

the pcm 80 is also fed dual mono in with 2 more splits from the rocktron. the pcm is running the pitch FX algorithm card, and there are a lot of customized real time parameter controls happening, responding to input level as well as internal LFO, which i have painstakingly programmed in to achieve the desired spatial results.

but because it is designed as a surround effect if you try to use conventional speakers it collapses into nonsense. and here's an interesting youtube observation

listen to the difference in audio when you link a video using forum tools:

stereo surround fx is destroyed---is it collapsed to dual mono???
(ps like the shirt steve? :D )

still chasing after my hero:

Is that Landau? If so enjoy the chase.
But realize it's either in you or it's not...so just enjoy the ride.

it's cool because it's not so much trying to specifically reproduce his sound as much as it is the spirit of how great his or ej or holdsworth's sounds were. huge, unique interesting tones.

Landau played on hundreds of recording sessions as a session guy. He got to see and hear all the best miking techniques from some of the best engineers....was able able to play through almost any amp he wanted to on these hundreds of sessions.
He better have his tone figured out, or nobody will. :D

Oh ya...you are preaching to the choir my friend. He is very special.
Wish he would put out more solo albums...he is so inspiring.

BTW your clip is very cool...I've been thinking about trying the Roland synth system with guitar for fun...but damn...like I need to add more to my setup. :D

he's done star spangled banner and organic instrumentals but i am more into his tales era stuff

thanks for the clip comment---i feel like making a video describing what it took to program that preset! pretty deep.
gtr synth is also cool to me too except for the extra hassle! so i guess for me getting synth sounds on my rack gear is the next best thing.

Yup, Star Spangled was great but Tales From The Bulge is the one. Guess I was thinking, do more of that damn you, stop holding out on us.
I know he is growing as a player, but I liked his older stuff. Why is it that is that always the case? When a great players 'grows' it's not as passionate and honest as their early stuff...trying to be something they are not?

the first albums are musicians with hunger and something to prove to the world
