Live AIC from 1993

Layne's voice bursts through even on this rough bootleg audio. I caught them live around this time. Such a refreshing option with all of that self-absorbed Grunge swilling around. Unlike the others they embraced their metal roots with pride.

If it weren't for the tragedy of addictions AIC could have been the Led Zeppelin of that generation. Look at their overall body of work before they began to disintegrate: They could do upbeat, aggressive and even thrashy metal...slower, darker groove oriented metal...straight up rock / hard-rock with flavors of blues and even country mixed in...fantastic and highly emotive ballads and even haunting, fully acoustic pieces. In my opinion, there wasn't a thing they couldn't do musically with proficiency, grace and class. All while sounding highly original in their presentation. Definitely the most influential of the "grunge" (whatever that means) era.

Badass post. Whole band was hitting hard on all cylinders.

Fucking Layne.
Best voice (and melodies, harmonies) of all the 90s rock bands.
Still sucks he died.
Him, Weiland, Hoon...some of my favs, so disappointing the way they went out. Who knows what awesomeness they'd have come up with.
I'll never forget the first time I heard AIC, before they were really popular. That voice, like nothing I heard before.
