Looking for 3+3 locking tuners, preferably 18:1, for a PRS 245.

Anyone have experience with the auto trimming models out there? Any thing I should be looking for in particular?

Any suggestions are appreciated!

I give it 1 month   jk that's a nice guitar though, you should just keep it

Schaller. Don't bother with anything else, Schaller are the best.

I use planet waves on my LPs, can't complain.

I actually like Gotoh Magnums better, but their locking system is bogus.

Do you use the ones that trim the string?

Yes for planet waves stuff. The trimming works nicely, unless you go for a very thick low E string. If you use a 60 it probably won't work. A 54 is already starting act up, but still works.

I have Schallers on my EBMM and have used Sperzels in the past. Cant really say one is better than the other. Both are very good and do a good job. But isn't the SC245 a hard tail? If so, why do you need locking tuners? If you're having tuning issues with a hard tail, try a bit of graphitall or nutsauce.

I like the Planet Waves I've got on my Ibanez Artcore. Pretty smooth, no locking issues. Cutting the string for me is always nice too

Got Planet Waves on my Hamer, and they work great! 18:1 and auto trim!

It is, but the tuners are sloppy (IMO) and I hate changing strings. I also have a pretty heavy right hand, so...

Anyone know if any of these are drop in replacements on the 245?

I can tell you that planet waves are drop in replacement for les pauls customs, so if your 245 has the same LP holes, then it should fit your axe too.

I'm curious to see where this goes - I got a great deal on an SC245 last year because the previous owner botched pulling off the old tuners, and there was a superficial crack in the wood near the low E tuner. He sealed it and it didn't look bad from 2 feet away, and I got an awesome deal. That's become my main Les Paul-style guitar that I play out now because it's already defective, so I don't care if it gets wear and tear now.

I had my setup guy give it a once over and install the Planet Waves Auto-Trim Locking Tuners on it. He said they were NOT a direct replacement, and so I now have new holes drilled and exposed ones on the back sitting unfilled. As I said, the headstock already had a defect, so I don't care, but I've been scared to put these on any of my other guitars because I don't want new holes / exposed holes.

I will say, these tuners are the best - the gear and tuning motion is all very smooth, they hold tune well on strings both during a session and over the long haul. The locking mechanism is very easy to move and the auto-trim is AWESOME. On a guitar like this, without a trem, a string change can seriously be done in a couple of minutes with no tools.

Yeah, they wont be direct placements because of the screw that attaches to the back of the headstock. The metal piece with the hole for the screw is on an angle, as apposed to being straight down. I had to drill new holes in the back of my Artcore's headstock.

I was really afraid of doing it, because that's my "classy" guitar, but it turned out just fine.

Now if the guy I bought them from hadn't screwed me over by sending me 4+2 instead of 3+3  I've got an old tuner in it, and I hate it. I need an individual Auto-Trim tuner.
