I really like the tone Andy Timmons is getting from his Lonestar. So much so, I've been really GASing for one.

BUT...

If I'm going to get a new MESA...what about a Mark V?

I'm guessing most of you guys will pick the Mark V 'cause it's the latest greatest.

So, what do ya think?

The Mark V is more interesting for me than the Lonestar.
I've tried the Lonestar and was only midly interested.
But if you like Andy Timmons tone, the Lonestar is a good choice.

These are totally different amps. The V may give you cleans as good as the Lonestar but the Lonestar has a lead tone in it that the Mark V will never give you. The V can get heavier and probably has uber-gain. Depends on what you want. I never played a V but prefer the Lonestar to the Mark IV.

Yeah, I hear what your saying. I am leaning more toward the Lonestar but thought I'd get some views on the Mark V as well. I guess it's the excitement of a new Mark from MESA that has me curious.

If you are buying NEW Definitely the Mark V, however if you are going the used route, go for a Lonestar now and see if you like it, by then some MV's will probably pop up :D

at least 3 to 5 from this forum alone.

Not very familiar with either, I say Mark V, it just looks killer and from what I heard, sounds great, and probally will have a better resale value at first if you don't like it.

If your goal is Andy Timmons then go with the Lonestar and a BB Preamp.. However, you kind of need him to get HIS tone.. LOL!:D His rig is only 1/2 the battle.

  Well, I don't want to sound exactly like Timmons (like I ever could!   ) I dig the tone he gets and would like to just get into the ball park.

I would have to think that with all the Eq options . it would be pretty easy to get the Lonestar clean and solo sounds from the first 2 channels .by working with it for a bit ..

from what I have been told from local dealer .
the clean channel is based on the MKIV and the Lonestar .

Oops, I went against the flow of the poll and pulled the trigger on a Lonestar. The Mark V is just too much of an unknown for me right now and I liked to see it around for a while to shake out the production bugs before I'd get one. Besides, I already have a Mark IV. I got a descent deal from fellow forumite Duolos - Terry, thanks so much. The amp should be here by Wednesday.

Thanks for the input...you guys rock!

Turn the bass almost all the way off on the drive channel.
Mesa LSC is one of the best amps ever made IMHO.
Not for Metal, but a very rich amp for grown ups.

Yeah, I saw the Andy Timmons video on the Mesa website and he basically said the same thing about turning the bass down. I think he has his set around 9:00. I'm pretty excited about getting this amp.

I dunno... nobody's heard the Mark I mode on the V yet, it just might get in that ballpark.

Hmmm...maybe, but we won't know that until the MK V has been around for awhile and the reviews start coming in.

You are going to be waiting a while if you want to see real reviews and not the new gear day boner reviews.

Yep, that's one of the reasons I went with the Lonestar.

His tone is still pretty bassy mesas are wierd amps to tweak coming from everything else.
