I don't know. That tone sounded very much like an old school "direct" tone. Like something a Boss or Digitech would make. Can't say it did much for me. Cool little riffage though.

Please don't take offense to this but I really planned on not mentioning what this was because of concern for "sounds direct" type comments. I'm not saying this is why you made the comment but I fooled people with the POD bean 1.0 some 15 years ago or so until I told them what it was, then everybody heard it was digital.

While I struggled a little bit, partially because I spent 10 minutes with the GPDI before recording this, I don't hear anything "direct" about this clip.

I think I remember that from HCAF. Were you the one who did the "I just got my marshall out of the garage and made a clip" guy.

Sorry man, it sounds pretty bad. Not the playing , just the amp. I have a GP3 and it's much more aggressive than this. I stopped using my 2-90-2 also, big piece of shit. Always going thru tubes. I run the GP-3 into an Invader 2 now when I want VHT tones. The Gp3 loves El34s. They smooth out the sterile fryette sound.
I'm sure not everyone
likes my idea of tone either.  I would sell that afap.

Reminded me of priest too, not that I would call that a good thing though.

That's funny. A few weeks ago some guy posted up his CD on SS.org of his very highly influenced Korn band. The production sound was very very good and the guitars killed.

I asked what he was playing through and he said a POD. I almost shit myself it was pretty awesome seriously. Almost made me question my gear whoring.

No offense taken at all. I clicked on the link before reading the thread and thought that it sounded obviously direct as soon as the intro tiff stopped and the rhythm began. What I heard had nothing to do with revisionist perceptions after the outcome of the gear used. Why have concerns about "sounds direct" when it was?

You guys are right that it's a Fryette... not the D60. It's the GPDI direct.

OH! It's direct. My bad dude. I thought it was miced. Yeah it sounds, "simulated", to me.

Enjoying life, man, but busy as hell. Founded a new software startup with two partners and actually writing a lot of code, also trying to get Bottle Rockets out as fast as possible. Hope things are going well for you, man! - saw you got out of the wood working biz - wondered what you did with your CNC rig??

Hey Bob, I've been mia myself. I'm glad you're doing well. I dig the clip btw!

Sounds about right. I did it multiple times to the point that when I posted miced amps, people were gun shy and asked if it was the POD.

I may not have been clear. There are certainly no concerns. My comments were based upon the fact that when I've posted clips over the last decade and a half, whether it's a miced amp, direct, digital modelers or in this case, direct out from a tube amp, the only time I get comments that something sounds "digital" or "direct" are when I go ahead and say it's digital or direct. In fact, I think this is the very first time that I've posted something direct that wasn't a modeler and low and behold, somebody picked it out... it sounds direct.

I actually have no idea what you actually think, but still, appreciate your comments.

Awesome all around dude! Yeah, we should get together sometime soon. I picked up another hobby now that the wood shop is gone... very cool stuff.

On second listen, I hears the directs as well! :D

Steve

Hahahah! Love it!

But, time to break it out... it's actually the Deliverance through the Fanes, miced with my new AEA R92 Ribbon mic. Cmmmmmmmmmmmmm... now what...

Well, regardless of wtf it is you went through, mic'd, lined-in, POD'd, I still think it's a ripping clip with a hot tone - sounds like it went through little p/p if any, and BAM, history was made, er, is made, um, is being made. It's a classic sound - a sound that many songs we've all heard and loved are based on...and that ain't a bad thing IMHO.

Fuck, all I know is I've seen and heard 100s of clips here and on YT of amps, cabs, everything - and I'd say only 10% of them actually piqued my curiosity enough to pipe in and say "heeeeeey, alright - nice clip and tone!!". Your playing is what had me jiving and boogying on this end   Kept me entertained and surprised, and that added to the fact I thought it sounded "within that 10% of :2thumbsup: clips" out there.

Keep it up Bob, whatever them other distractions are, do make some time to keep it up. I've been away from playing for almost 3 years and this is the fuel that makes me plug in now. So put that in yer direct-in POD-like pipe and smoke it :D

Good to see ya around Bob. Sounds good and I guessed what it was ;)

Me love you...

Glad to see you around and recording/playing! Awesome clip!!!! That Fryette sounds awesome!!!

Funny you should say this, exactly what my thoughts were albeit in Finnish :D
