Well, they do sound slightly different even when doing the exact same FX - say that classic dual detune thing. The GTR is slightly clearer and brighter but still very close. There is still some conversion funkyness going on, for sure, as expected of a unit basically from the early 90s. I prefer the GTRs for most stuff, but the H3000 has those things that only it can do totally right. I never liked my Eclipse half as much as these three, by the way.

From the DSP7000 onward they are a lot more transparent, for lack of a better word... to me the 4000s are right at the crossroads of classic digital mojo and the modular awesomeness, and they´re not overpowered to the point I´d feel bad about using them as, say, a single chorus FX. It´s really something that the only units that have surpassed the 4000 in the last 25 years are the later Eventides.

Here is a pic of my rack, it really gets out of hand fast with all those 2U units eating up space

Oh Damn that's sweet! My hoo hoo just tingled a little! Awesome gear, man! Thanks for the info. I have seriously gassed for an H8000 and debated on it a lot. It's a lot of coin even used and I keep telling myself there is no way I need that much processing horsepower and 8 channels. Then I've debated on the H7600. I have an Eclipse I use for W/D/W and its great, but I'm not satisfied with it alone. If you are into the Eventide sounds it's addictive, you know? There are so many different flavors. I need to try a GTR4000, but don't know anyone with one. Hell, I don't know anyone in my area with any Eventides.

Thanks, man! It really is overkill, but once you want instant access to a bunch of quality tones - skipping a lot of slow preset switching - the units start piling up fast. It´s basically laid out like the old Bradshaw/CAE stereo racks but with an extra mixing stage and more modern FX units.

Yeah, the Eclipse is by any standard a monster unit, but for whatever reason it didn´t grab me like the GTRs do and making your own algorithms in VSIG is great fun if you know a bit about what makes FX tick. I´ve had a stupid amount of gear over the years, including most of the classic processors, and I´m super satisfied with this now.

The absolute best buy in Eventide land is the Orville, by the way. All the power you could realistically need and the same dual engine, multi-channel architecture as in the H8000.

Yeah the Orville looks cool and seems harder to find probably for that very reason. One of these days I'm gonna have to track down and Orville or an H8000 though.

You can´t go wrong with any of the modular ´tides, but once you start asking them to do several full-scale things at once the 4000s run out of steam. The 4000s are absolutely awesome when used as a part of a system of processors like I do, but can´t be a whole system by themselves like the later ones can.

Anyway, you´ve got me GASing for one of these funky older Harmonizers ;) I´ve always wanted to try a H969.

LOL! Sorry about that!  I'd like to try the 969 too. I haven't tried the 949 yet either. I've read a lot about them, but fought the temptation to buy one and just decided screw it, if I'm gonna go retro I'm going back to the start of harmonizers with the H910!

At least from a guitar rig perspective, people mostly seemed to stick with the H910 or H949 until the H3000 came out. Only players I´ve seen use the H969 are Lukather and Vai.

Cool score!

But... I think you are going to have trouble getting a forum with 17,800 members of which 17,798 of them are mature males to call you daddy, or even acknowledge you calling yourself daddy. ;)

Yeah, you're probably right.... Bad habit... My girlfriend calls me daddy though, does that count? :D
