You can test both. Plug the mixer out into the return of the Recto loop. Plug your guitar into the Recto input - it should sound normal as if the mixer wasn't connected. Then take your guitar from the Recto input and plug it into the mixer input. You should hear your guitar clean through the cab. But you shouldn't need the mixer if the loop is parallel - only if it is serial.

Unfortunetly I am not gonna be able to get that fender m-80 preamp I am thinking I am going to run the mxr micro chorus and a 10 band ex as my extra channel. Do i still need the line mixer if the effects loop is paralell? Or can i just go into the chorus and eq pedal? I did hook up the line mixer with a little line 6 pedal I had sounded great so I know it'll work well. However I am also thinking about ust getting a Roland jazzz chorus to make my life easier I just don't know if 400$ is too much and which way would be easier rightnow for me its a toss up any ideas?

You could try a graphic EQ pedal in front of your amp, to attenuate the signal. It's like lowering the volume control on your guitar, but you have more control on particular frequencies to minimise overdriving the amp, further than what the amp is already overdriving.
