Hi guys/gal!

I was wondering what everyone is using these days - I have a Les Paul and I'm interested in swapping out my current pick up (SD 59 w/ an alnico 2 magnet). I'm looking for something warm and round so to speak, that doesn't lose its fullness. Right now when I use it , it sounds kind of thin.

Any help would be great.

Thanks,
Mark

I'm using a Wolfetone Marshallhead neck in my R8. Really fantastic pickup. Full/fat but clear.

Suhr SSV (retains classic character, has good body to it)
PRS 57/08 (One of the best takes on a PAF style pickup I've ever tried, bright but not thin)
Bare Knuckle Black Dog (the juiciest neck pickup I've ever tried)

59 usually sounds muddy in the neck. Are you using 300k or 500k pots?

Agreed. Best neck pickup I've tried yet!

I'm using stock R7 electronics, so I'm not sure on the pots.

Dimarzio Dominion. Have one in my 04 LP studio and its great for distorted tones, both metal and classic rock, and the cleans are beautiful.

MCP Twreck. I use the Twreck in my Heritage and it is fat, buttery and clear.

Interesting. I love the SD 59 in the neck of my guitars, but mostly because I like how it retains definition and doesn't get all muddy in the neck - sounds like I and the OP want different things out of a neck pickup......especially as the LP is almost certainly warmer already than my super-strats.

Wolfetone Marshallhead neck is also best I've tried.
Wish I liked the bridge better, but just didn't do everything I wanted.

WCR Darkburst is an amazing neck pickup.
I really liked the Crossroads neck I had. I wanted something different than the OP so I have an Arcane Triple Clone in there now but the Crossroads fit the description. I would expect the Darkburst to be awesome as well.

OX4 would be a great option for what you're describing.

I'm loving the Suhr Thornbuckers in my Anderson Bulldog. Pete Thorn's take on the PAF.

I just changed out the stock Gibson pickups on my Lifeson Axcess. I went with a Jazz in the neck from previous experience of using it on another guitar and it sounds fabulous in there!
