So I like my H&K TriAmp, but I've been searching for a new amp. Something different. I've looked at Rectos, Mark IVs & Vs, Egnater Renegade, Peavey 6505+, Marshall's latest flagship and nothing has grabbed my. Nothing has screamed, "You must own me!" I play hard rock. Think heavier Fuel, APC, AIC, etc... I just can't seem to find anything that sounds like I want it to. I'm looking for a two or three channel amp that has nice cleans, good hard rock dirty tones and liquid leads. My budget is somewhere around $1500. I don't mind buying used. So what do you guys recommend?

people seem to like the EVH III as mentioned allready.

the 6534 seems cool, and i'd like to try one.

allways some kind of Mod for sale around here. Freidman, Fortin, Brian's stuff, etc. etc.

Bones or two around, and a few Elmwood M90s.

VHT Sig X's are cool amps.

Go big, VH4

But if you're staying around the $1500 range, I really enjoyed Mesa's Mark V (it takes some time to dial in so spend some more time with it).

Not just because i own one, but the Bogner Shiva 20th would make you happy.

What about an orange rockerverb? they can be found used fairly cheap. Also, there is a bray modded marshall in the classifieds and I know first hand that they sound awesome also.

Another vote for the 5150 III. Lot of amp for the price and covers the bands you listed with ease.

The more I recommend these amps to people, the more I wonder why I don't own one. Might have to grab one of the 50 watters when they come out.

I did not care for the 5150 III Mexican model. Had high hopes based on bang for buck tones of the previous 5150 models. I might suggest getting a nice preamp, and you could use the power section of the Triamp. You can get some nice ones for less than the cost of a new amp, and if you buy used they can be a bargain and easy to sell and ship if it doesn't work for you. Mako, Engl, Mesa, Quinn, and other guys making some good ones. Racks are back, and some killer tones to be had.

All you need son is a MK IIc+, Fortin modded SLP, and a yngwie strat pretty boy.

To the OP the 5153 has been sounding really good lately.

+1 on the EVH 5153. Make sure to bias from factory 20ma to 35 per tube, right out of the box.
It's cab picky. Sounds best with the EVH 5153 cab. That cab is dope, anyway.

Randall MTS....RM100 head will let you choose three preamp modules....The best system out there to my ear...

Funny, I've been curious about the TriAmp (MkI) myself...couple questions (sorry, don't have any better suggestions than whats been mentioned). How difficult are they to bias? Can't seem to find squat on the web to help with that (like a ref pic showing bias posts, etc). Do these amps sound good at medium volume levels or do they need to be loud as #^&@ to sound good? I've heard they can track well at lower volumes? Thanks

Keep the Triamp...you can get all the tones you are looking for out of it. Great amp!! Maybe try a diff cab/speakers instead of dumping a great head??

My friend has a TriAmp, it's killer. There are things I didn't like about it. It has been crapping out all the time and no one can seem to fix it.

My first recommendation would be a Friedman modded Marshall. You can get a clean channel put in but all I do is roll back the volume, seems to work fine for me. 20th shiva is cool too, if you're thinking Alice in Chains Jerry used to have one in his rig. Maybe find some used VHT/Fryette stuff or some Jet City stuff(but change tubes because I've heard they come stock w/ crap tubes). I liked the Mark V alot too, there's just so much to mess with on it....but also many great tones to be had. No experience on the EVHIII, but I've only heard great things. Also, the Mesa Roadster looks pretty rad, if I were to buy a Mesa that'd probly be it.
