Funny, I've been curious about the TriAmp (MkI) myself...couple questions (sorry, don't have any better suggestions than whats been mentioned). How difficult are they to bias? Can't seem to find squat on the web to help with that (like a ref pic showing bias posts, etc). Do these amps sound good at medium volume levels or do they need to be loud as #^&@ to sound good? I've heard they can track well at lower volumes? Thanks

The TriAmp is a great head. It will cover a lot of ground. It sounds good a medium volume levels, but really comes to life when the master volume is around 9:00, and gets better from there. You don't have to crank it for it to sound good, but the louder you get it the more it opens up. It's not very difficult to bias. A set of bias probes and a small screwdriver are all you need.

Shiva or Uberschall, I've seen them both bouncing close to your price range. If you could squeeze a few more dollars in there, jump on one. You could get an XTC 101b for $2000.

5150III

We have the same gear. I love how the EVH sounds through my Mesa 4x12. I run the TC GMajor 2 in the loop. My Les Paul Classic sounds great through it.

Also, don't overlook channel 2. It sounds way different than channel 3. It's much tighter, more organic, and stands out more in a band setting, especially boosted. Channel 3 is more compressed and sounds like what your looking for in a lead channel.

How about a Mako Mak4, and peavey classic 50/50?? That is what I am rocking and it kills!!! And it will come in under budget.

Where the @#%! is that 50 watt 5150 III already?! Sounds like it might be a killer studio amp!
