hey gang. i'm looking for a 'super strat' guitar (or any guitar with a h-s-s configuration really) to equip with a suhr aldrich in the bridge. budget is around $600 - new or used. are there any brands/specific wood types to look for that the aldrich would be best paired with? some of these FSR/mexican fat strats don't look too bad for their prices, as do some ibanez RG's (although i'd like to steer clear of locking trems), but if there is a sleeper axe out there that i can grab used in my budget, i'd love to know what else to be on the lookout for. additionally, if anyone can recommend middle and neck single coils that play nicely with the aldrich (should the guitar i end up with come with some dinky stock jobs), fire away!

Used American Stratocasters all day long on CL. Suhr Aldrich and Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounter. One of the best guitars and some of the best tones I've ever had!

I checked your local Craigslist. Here are some easy options.....

Cheap option: http://longisland.craigslist.org/msg/3117950614.html

Stretching the budget a bit but a really nice foundation to mod: http://longisland.craigslist.org/msg/3089777231.html

Hmmm.....interesting.....: http://longisland.craigslist.org/msg/3068243134.html

If you can accept a ciggy burn, here's an option: http://longisland.craigslist.org/msg/3109478681.html

This one is more than you want to spend, but is killer: http://longisland.craigslist.org/msg/3075506069.html

Maybe check out G & L if your looking for something off beat. Jerry Cantrell has some cheaper models in your 600 buck range.

My experience is the Aldrich sounds very different in different woods. I have a Jackson PC-1 with an aldrich that sounds great. The jackson is a mahogony body. I liked the aldrich so much I bought a set for my Hamer USA Diablo. The Hamer has an alder body and the Aldrichs dont sound so hot in this guitar. Very bright with little bottom end. I'm using 500K volume pots on both guitars.

The original pickups in the Hamer were SD JB's. Those were kind of dark. The Aldrichs are a complete polar opposite.

But like I said, it works great in my Jackson...

This. G&L great guitars and can be had for relatively cheap.

Save a couple hundred more, and get a Warmoth. They sell on Ebay all the time, but you can have a custom one made at a reasonable price.

You might find a late 80's early 90's Strat Plus in that price range. They have a swimming pool route and mine sounds quite good.

Also the MIM strats are not bad at all. The one in my avatar is a MIM.

Can't say how they'll react to the Aldrich, but for a strat in that range I'd go to GC and play every one on the wall and pick out the best. By luck or design, I've found some of the Mexican Fenders are crazy good sounding and playing (but some are real dogs, too, so you have to dig through them a bit).

thanks for all the info thus far guys!

Why get a Super Strat without a Floyd?

i'm not a lead player/i hate string changing with floyds. trem is fine as i do incorporate some light bend work into my playing, just not a fan of locking trems.

I would have to agree with a previous post about the Aldrich sounding great in a mahogany bodied guitar. I have an Ibanez Prestige RGA121 that I plan on putting an Aldrich in very soon. You should check one out. It is a great playing, solid guitar with an awesome Gibralter bridge. They have been holding there value quite well though but I purchased mine about 8 months ago in great shape for $400.

I'd have to 3rd this. I've got Aldrich's in one of my Suhr Moderns that has a mahogany body/curly koa top/pau ferro neck....sounds very nice.
