and transparent picks and guitar cases.....don't even look at my guitars...don't want any heat vision to screw with my tone!

I want transparent speakers...

I'm going to plug my guitar in sans strings..I don't want them to alter my tone..thus I'll take t hem out of the equation

What's the most transparent material I can make my guitar out of?

why, air of course! Just put a strap on your shoulder and get ready to rock!

Ahh yes... Air Wood...
What's the most transparent strap? I hear neoprene absorbs the bloom and woodiness of the tone.

gotta be a dimarzio strap..c'mon..AIR series pickups?? who better than them!
True true...

All this "Air"... Air Guitar!

Yeah but unless you live somewhere where there's alot of pollution, your Air Guitar won't have enough carbon in it to make it sound 'organic'

How bout a transparent gig bag? Every new Charvel should have one.

Metalmandude ; who shot down the Boiling Point , you clearly are confused.

The Rockbox Boiling Point is the pedal you are describing OP. Try one and you'll understand why it's normally sold out. It's a great pedal which brings the articulation of each string picked to the speaker. It doesn't sound like a "distortion pedal". It more of a boost / tone enhancer / bring some gain if you need to. Good luck.

Im not sayin it sucks, but isnt it just a modded TS?

haven't gotten a chance to read all the posts but at least you guys are havin fun ;)

by transparent (trying to further clarify) I mean for it to have a different/varied sound depending on which guitar and which amp i go through.

So yes in essence like an OD (well, more like 2 put together or something to that effect), but with as much gain to go into high gain with the amp set clean.

anyhoo, while everybody was jokin around i found something that might be right up my alley! I'll definitely also check out all the other pedals recommended to me

Ummm, no I am not confused.

I AM however a longtime member on a forum that reverse engineers guitar pedals.

Whether you think the pedal sounds great or not it is a TS derivative and is made out of 30 bucks worth or parts. I never said it was a bad pedal or sounds bad, I shot it down based on price.

I haven't taking the time to trace the PCB. I quickly decided it was a TS derivative based on the PCB photo; 2 - transistors, 2 - 1uf caps, op amp, typical clipping arrangement's. At face value it looks the same as every "its not a TS but really is" pedal.

Just by looking at it if it does happen to not be the TS then it is RAT, either way there is no justification for its price tag other than pure greed.

Are you the guy behind Rockbox?

found some more info from a fellow UK pedal forumite:
I had one of these here earlier in the week. It didn't work (faulty power socket - breaking both the battery and the external supply connection). Changed the socket, and the thing worked. Pretty ordinary Tubescreamer as far as I could see, though with more bass, and using a Maxim dual op-amp in the one I saw (the top was sanded, but the underside wasn't). The PCB quality is quite cheap-looking with really fine tracks. There are probably about $25 parts involved, including the case and knobs, and $100 would be a maximum fair retail price - with a pre-drilled box, you could build it in half an hour or less.

There is a debate about the Rockbox being nothing more than a BYOC job.
My buddy has one....i personally don't think it does anything special or find it worth the ridiculous price.

While the below may be true, I have had a Rockbox and while it does have a tubescreamer type tone, it is quite a bit more versatile with a lot more gain on tap. Very usable gain, and the pedal seems to a great job with just about any amp I have tried it with. I think they are very sweet sounding and I have tried a lot of pedals, overpriced "probably" but so is everything else we buy most of the time........

I cannot say I agree with this being the greatest ripoff quote below!! YMMV though as we all see things differently.

Do yourself a favor and get a Rockbox Boiling Point. I paid about $340 for mine. I think. Gelb music had the best price. This pedal is exactly what you're looking for.
It's like they ran your guitar signal in a parallel signal path with the drive.

I know it's pricey , but it's that good. Can act as a clean boost as well. If you want to see it demo'd , go to YouTube and check out Gearmanndude. He has over 500 videos of almost every pedal known to man. And he does a great job. I saw he recently did a review of the Boiling Point. Check em out. You'll be glad you did ;)

Dude this pedal is the greatest ripoff I have seen yet. It is a tubescreamer variant with the typical BYOC three way switch.

There are probably about $25 parts involved, you could build it in half an hour or less. $389 is fu@%ing crazy!

The PCB of this pedal is also clearly a copy of the BYOC screamer PCB layout except with really thin traces.

If you wanted one of these I would say get an 808 and mod it (or have someone else mod it) to your preferences.

The rockbox may in fact be a decent sounding pedal, maybe even better than a stock TS but paying that kind of money for it is stupid IMO. Rockbox isnt the only one there are dozens of way overpriced TS variants out there. the stock pedal at $120 is pushing it in terms of value as is.

It CAN be built for a fraction of that price. for each rockbox you buy you could have built fifteen ts808 clones.

The PCB layout was apparently copied from BYOC yet made of lower quality.

I stand by my statement, but obviously its your money and it the pedal suits you perfectly maybe there is no price too high. for me Ill build my own that sounds better or identical for next to nothing.

Hardwire SC-2 Valve Distortion or if you really want gain the TL-2 Metal.

I have the SC-2 and it covers pretty much all the ground I want it to. It's got a switch to go from crunch to saturated so you get two distortion types with ease depending on what you're playing.

how does the riot sound through a solid state amp? like a roland jc-120 or line 6 digital amps?

I am not saying you are wrong at all. I am just saying I have compared to a lot of pedals in the vein of what you are speaking of and to my ears this pedal has more gain and excels at a tone level. This of course is to my ears and a few other choice players whom ears I respect.

I cannot speak of build quality as unlike you I do not build pedals. I buy based on what my ears hear and like. I would love to give one of yours a try, especially at much less cost. If you can make me one that will sound as good as the Rockbox I will buy it from you and sell the Rockbox for the ungodly price they ask for them.

Hit me up with a PM as I am not favoring this pedal for anything but it has and offers more than the others I have tried. I will take you up on yours being as good and buy one from you.
