Im looking for a new guitar and wanted to see what I should be looking at? With the exception of a few cheap guitars, I havent bought anything in quite a while.
I like shredder guitars, but I’m not a shredder. For years I had fun with the USA and Japanese Charvel Production models, swapping pickups and parts. I feel the current generation of mexican made guitars are great on paper but lack that quality feel when they’re in my hands. I bought an ash charvel tele off ebay, only to return it. Such a step down in quality
So the hunt is on for something new. I think my price range is something under $2200. But I’m
Looking for a quality premium instrument (not an import, unless its something like a high end ibanez prestige/ esp/ framus).
My main axe is an EBMM Axis. Best neck shape EVER! I’d love to get the Koa BRF Axis, but its too expensive. Played it twice and its amazing! In the same camp is the Peavey HP2. I haven’t played one, but owned 3 pv Wolfs in the past. The tops look great!
Also on the list is Suhr. I picked up a Rasmus-Suhr Guthrie Govan last year for cheap, and I’ve fallen in love. The African Mahogany is resonant and just sings. Plus the plek’d fingerboard feels far superior to many of my guitars. I’d probably be looking at a modern satin or used modern of some sort. - interestingly though, a local shop has a neckthrough suhr govan and I don’t like it.
I might see how much a custom Dean would cost. I’ve played many of their USA guitars and think they’re highly underrated as a company. They make great quality stuff! Kiesel is in my price range, but I’ve never loved their neckshapes. I had an Ultra V and DC 135 in the past. I’ve looked at PRS a little but I’m
Not in love with their necks. I think Ibanez and Ebmm JP guitars are cool- but I hate thin necks.
I tend to like thicker than average necks (ebmm Axis and Jackson pc1 are my faves) , mahogany, soft maple or a basswood body, maybe a koa top, a trem - I love the floating gotoh 510. I’d take it over a floyd any day. SS super jumbo frets. I’d prefer 24 frets but can make do with 22.
What else should I be looking at?
