And this is why clips are just pure BS. And there are low volume spots that sound good, yes they are great pushed but don't believe the bs about they have to be loud to sound good...every amp made is like that. Always best loud.

Point is, clips aren't the best way to judge an amp. In fact I would take people's experiences here over any clip anytime based on my actual experiences with amps vs clips. Clips have fooled me, while guys here have been spot on when I've asked questions.[/quote]

Nevermind "dream" head, I'm just happy with some solid...

mediocre head?

I am biased, because Mike Fortin is the greatest high-gain mind I think and have for years (but I also work for Fortin), but KSR amps are fucking awesome, and I just got the M-Zero OD, and it is pretty brutal.

Looks a lot like an SLO copy.

KSR amps ARE awesome. My Ares is such a fucking pissed off little beast. Totally got it's own thing going on too. I can't imagine ever selling it.

I've never heard a clip/video/recording of a Wizard amp that I actually liked. I don't get it. They all sound fizzy and grainy and kind of generic. It's gotta just be the recordings, right? I checked out every clip on Wizard's own website and none of them sound good to me. Never heard one in person. Yeah I know AC/DC uses them and all, but I definitely prefer their older sound with actual Marshalls.
It seems that every guy on RT who owns a Wizard absolutely raves about them, and describes them as nothing short of a religious experience that has to be heard (and felt) to be believed. I'm thinking that's no coincidence. Clips can't be trusted. Some amps just have to be experienced in person. Someday I'll sell a few toys and score one. (sigh)

Yeah that's what I assume as well. It's just that... you'd think a good recording of one would exist somewhere.

Yeah, I've only heard a few myself. Most sound buzzy and abrasive...

If you want an amp for many genres, you need one can sound good with many speakers/cabs.
Any thoughts on which amps meet that criteria?

The one amp out of the dozens that I've had, that has sounded killer with all my cabs: Marshall with G12 65s, another with 1974 Greenbacks, a Mesa with V30s, and an old Mesa with EVs/MC90s is the vintage 2C+. The SLO didn't like V30s, neither did the Wizard.

Sounds like I definitely need to try out a Wizard (besides all the other amps listed of course haha). I will admit I’m in the boat where listening to clips doesn’t make me think they are THE amps like a lot of people here feel, but I trust everyone’s word enough that i need to hear one in person.

Looking at my list and suggestions, I’d also ask anyone have an opinion on ENGL? I was listening to some SE clips and I thought they sounded pretty killer. Also I notic d in general this site definitely loves Friedman, but also they don’t exactly seem like they’d fit that “produced” sound I like?

I have the MZero Overdrive and sound great with both of my Marshall 4x12; V30 (straight) and Greenbacks (slant). Probably recorded is impossible to guess is the same amp...

It REALLY has an SLO flavor. So that makes a lot of sense.

^^^From guys who have owned them, sounds like a cross between an SLO and a good Marshall. Only issue is, when it comes time to sell, they take some time vs other top shelf amps. Not a lot out there about them.

Most clips are so far from what an amp sounds like in person that I can't imagine relying on them to make a sound purchase. They are fun to listen to, but if your interested in some of these amps, I'd definitely take the input from peoples opinions on here 1000X over any clip on the internet. Bare in mind however, that even then when basing on peoples opinions, they are just that and everyone's tastes differ.

I can tell you that I read peoples opinions on the Wizard amps for about 3-4 years and was extremely skeptical about the hype, but I finally decided to grab one and have to say the hype is 100% real. I won't sit here and say this is the best amp in the world, or that I'll never sell it (Actually thought of selling mine recently to fund some new guitars   ), but I will confirm and say they live up to the hype and are as stated: punchy as all get out, open, raw, and very very dynamic. The MCII I have takes OD pedals like a fuckin champ, and can get uber saturated to get you into that more polished sound, but it's still way more raw/organic sounding than most amps out there.

As far as your list suggestions I'd say stick with the Mesa Mark V, KSR, or Diezel because it sounds like your after a more polished sound. Engl delivers a very processed/polished sound, not saying that's a bad thing, I really like Engl amps. They almost sound like the tones you'd hear on an already produced album in a sense. I owned the FB100, Savage 120, Blackmore and have played the Artist edition and Ironball and they all share that "polished" trait. The Artist edition and Blackmore being a touch more organic.

I was able to sell mine pretty fast (I think only a few weeks) and I got it used, so I didn’t take a loss either. I think they’re more known now and stores like Axe Palace and Music Zoo carry them now

It was an awesome amp for sure, but my Marshall SLP with the Atomica mod just outdid in every way, but it’s also sent MANY other incredible amps packing. The Atomica is just unfairly good

I think it still may be worth trying if you get a chance, but my prediction is you’ll like your Wizard better

I have an SE EL34 and it’s my favorite Engl (I’ve tried them all). It still has that Engl sound of being compressed and processed, but it has this insane bottom end punch that no other amp I’ve played can match. It’s a very specific type of bottom end thing that’s hard to describe, but even my Wizard MTL, Cameron’s and Mesa Coliseums can’t match it at all and it’s got loads of growl
