As much as I like older STP stuff, Weiland is a irresponsible douchebag. The Delio brothers and Eric Kretz are way to good for his shit.

STP is one of the handful of '90s bands I really like. A shame that it is now just TMZ lawsuit BS.
 
yeah, i was thinking the worst too.

there were some really good guitar tones on the first few albums....i tapped out probaly around hole in a paper heart or his solo album...not really that invested in him to remember...around 97ish i think.

As much as I agree with you about Weiland, his voice and style is STP.

Now I know AIC has a new singer, was new who sounds very close to Layne Staley but he died and to me AIC is still great but I miss LS.

Singers are a special bread and there douche ness is sometimes what makes the band/music great. Im sure if Jim Morrison was still alive acting the way he did he wouldn't be liked as much anymore, but that is what made him him.

Every time I see a comment about AIC isn't the same without Layne, or Metallica died with Cliff Burton, I have to laugh at the absurdity of their statement. Well, duh....no shit. The band isn't the same. It's certainly not the bands fault.

As far as Scott Weiland goes though, he has never been able to hold down a steady frontman job. He's a fucking wreck.

But, your statement is true. Even as big of a douche as Axl was, there will never be a Slash band with the intensity of GnR. Myles is an awesome singer, but the stage presence and aura around a lead singer is what gives the band its personality.

This.

LOVE the first two albums and even some of the following stuff, but he has a proven track record of being undependable (since the late 90s) and that last album was horrific. Sounded like a really bad Aerosmith/Bob Dylan tribute.

Army of Anyone should do another album. That was killer!
 
I like Scott and most his music. Don't care that he's nuts. So is Axl. Crazy geniuses make great rock n roll. Slash sucks without Axl's songwriting. STP doesnt exist w/o scott. Velvet revolver was interesting but not amazing. If either one were mentally stable neither band would ever have existed. Hooray for nutty frontmen!!!! :lol: :LOL:

but seems like too much baggage of headaches/problems.....
wouldnt deal with it either.

Tremendous talent in the band, for certain. But without Scott, it'll never be STP.

I like the guy. And granted, it's sad and frustrating when people continually fuck their lives up with bad habits, but its the nature of the beast. Very few can pull it off on a long term basis.

The starter to this thread made me think he bit it, and for that moment I was pretty sad. I hope he sorts it out... Great fkn talent that cat.
