Lost setting up G major 2 on Herby. Help!

Hey guys,
So I finally got to try out my christmas present, a tc electronics g major 2! So far I am loving it for the very few things i've managed to make it do (mainly basic reverbs and delays which are soundings great). However, I've been reading the manual and am feeling very lost with a lot of the talk. I Have no idea what is meant by:
-clock settings?
-analogue and digital inputs?
-input and output ranges (dB and dBus?)
-range frequencies (kHz)?
Also, as for setting it up, I currently have it in the switchable loop so that I can take it in and out easily, however, they recommend putting it in the serial loop (which I tried, and also tried the parallel loop) but it seemed to make it more muddy and tone sucking, and if I do that I can't cut it out of the signal can I?
Finally, are there any crucial things I should do when intitially setting it up with my Herbert? Adjust certain parameters to get the clearest tone...etc?

I got one a few weeks ago and am pretty happy with it so far.
One thing that helped me understand it better was hooking it up to the computer.
It's easier to edit settings that way and you can do it hooked up live so you can hear it in real time as you're doing it.

I ended up putting it in the Serial loop and can't notice any difference in tone with it bypassed.

One thing I found was some of the factory presets were engaging an EQ in the unit which is an option for any effect.
I went through and turned that off in the effects I was using and it sounded way better and more transparent with the amp.
I don't like the EQ part of it so far.

Turn off Eq (I dont'remember now if you can lock it to off in global levels/parameters but I think is possible) and disable the boost because
your "Herbie" has a second master volume..use it to boosting the volume; then set the levels: from Tc manual:

• To set the correct input level:
  • Select the “loudest” sound – i.e., the sound
  containing the most dynamic content on the
  equipment you are feeding G-Major 2 with,
  e.g. your preamp. This will probably be a
  clean sound.
  • Adjust the input level on G-Major 2 so that
  the -3 dB LED flashes frequently and the -0
  dB LED flashes only at the very highest
  levels.

But try if the levels are correct also in hi-gain channel;sometimes palm muting on higain do a little dsp overload but without audible clipping.

I will go check the EQ if off. As for the loops, is the switchable loop just a serial loop that you can switch out? If so why is there also a serial loop? Also if anyone could help me with definitions of those things I listed I'ld really appreciate it.

Ok thanks, I had a read but am still a little confused.
I currently have the g-major 2 in between the send of the switchable loop and the return of the switchable loop. Would it be better to have it returning to the serial loop or would it be the same thing?
Also it reminded me to ask. As for speaker outputs. I'm currently using the 4Ohm output on the far left going into the mono input of my marshall jcm 900 1960a cab. Is that the optimum way for me to wire it or would there be a better option?

I'm no expert on it yet but the way I understand it is this unit can be used with a musical intrument (guitar/analog), and other studio type equipment (digital).
If you look at the back panel you can see a different set of inputs next to the 1/4 jacks.
I think the clocking and analog/digital has to do with how you're using the unit.
Input db has to do with the same thing. I think analog should be -10db and digital equipment set at +4.

Hooking the unit into the switchable loop will enable you completely bypass it by turning the loop off.
I a/b'd the unit in that set up and couldn't tell the difference tone wise with it bypassed and the loop on or with the loop off.
I'm running it now in the serial loop with a decimator and am pretty stoked with it so far..

I went through and turned off the eq on everything and the effects sound better to me.
You can turn down the mix of the effect when editing it. Most of the factory ones are set too high.

-clock settings= like your soundcard samplerate..cd are 44.1...usually higher samplerate means more quality.
-analogue and digital inputs?= if you don't have digital equipment you'll use only the analog in/out (send/return)
-input and output ranges (dB and dBus?)= db=decibel acoustic SoundPressureLevel dbu= electronics measurement , the "u" stands for "unloaded".
-range frequencies (kHz)?= enphasis or diminuition in Eq or a parameter to adjust the sensitivity of an effect.

Thanks guys,
I really appreciate the help! Does anyone know about my cab wiring situation? I just looked at the back of the cab and it has two inputs and a switch. One for "mono 4Ohms" the other for "stereo 16 Ohms". I am currently going from the 4Ohm output on my herbert to the mono on the cab, but is there a better option? (I'm operating at bedroom levels).

Your cab is a stock Marshall 4x12"?

Set it to mono and then use the 16 Ohm (should be the one one the right side if I remember correctly) and then use the 16 Ohm out on Herbie (the outer jack on the left of the rearpanel).

Thanks man, that picture is exactly right of my cab and yes it's stock. What are the two inputs for though? Also you talked about the 16 Ohm output from the herbert being on the left of the rear panel, but on mine it's the far right, is that what you meant? And what is the mono and stereo switch for? (and what's the difference between 4 Ohms and 16 Ohms?)
