I live for stuff like this ;) My favourite guitar tone of the 80's is Loudness "Thunder in the East" album. Thanks Akira Takasaki!

I always struggled with the accent with the vocals, so could never listen to much ..... great tone and player though

Thunder in the East, Lightning Strikes and Hurricane Eyes were all on heavy rotation back in the eighties for me. Akira was vastly underrated.

Killer tone! Always loved the modded Marshall crunch of Loudness!

MZA!

lok an low clazy nih-hi-hights
ju ah da she-roah!

AT meant business

I think he was using Lee Jackson amps--Metaltronix I think.

Funny I was just going thru some old guitar mags and came across one from 1993 that did an article on him. He is such a great player and good guy. Got to hang with him a bit a few times when I was stationed in Japan. Jaw dropping giddy school girl moment for me!

Loudness-Dokken (ULK)-Motley Crue (TOP) was my first big concert!

MZA!

I'm a big fan just not that motivated to have this discussion for the 97th time on RT. :D

Sorry, can't hear you over the stacks of marshalls

Had Thunder In The East cassette in '84, blew my mind back then. Perfect modded Marshall tone and killer playing, Akira was like an amalgamation of my favorite players at the time wrapped up into one...

It's 97th time Akira or another detuned chug thread...go with the lesser evil man! Now please start a new Le Tekrø topic :gethim:

Yeah I know he's been discussed before, I was actually more interested in that actual song The Lines Go Down. There is some really amazing chorusy chords in there that are so proggy/mid-80s Rush-like amidst the straight-up metal goodness.

Crazy Nights, the funniest story I read was about the whole "MZA" chant. It doesn't mean anything. The vocalist just made it up as a placeholder during initial recordings, and they just ended up keeping it because they couldn't come up with anything better :)

I tried a short clip of the main riff for The Lines Are Down a short while ago through my Triple Rec Reborn (boosted) just to see if the amp could pull it off.

The notes aren't exact of course but I like that song. :)
