Love my ElectraDyne but... (Bogner)

The modern high gain tones aren't really there without a boost and I don't really wanna do the tap dance any more.
Considering either selling it for a 5150III 50 watt (to be used with a Mesa vert 2x12) or keeping it and picking up a Bogner Red pedal for the Dyne's clean channel.
I do absolutely love what the dyne does offer in terms of cleans and mid to hi gain tones (90's).
Not sure how well the Red does the modern stuff... (Sylosis, Gojira etc...) which is what I'm looking for.
D standard is the lowest tuning I use if it makes a difference, Eb being the highest.
Opinions?

Get an EQ pedal for the FX loop to add some high end and scoop the middle just a bit, but you'll have to use an OD pedal up front for the gain. The Bogner Red won't give you what you want, I owned one. Great pedal but won't give you the modern sound you want, try an EQ in the loop.

Are you using the combo or head? I like the ED because it's got more bottom than almost any amp I've tried, and not mushy bottom but big and fat.

If you want to play with Gojira style tones predominantly, a 5150 III is hard to beat for that. Otherwise, you'll just end up concocting a similar tone with the use of various pedals, which can lead to more tweaking than actual playing.
The E-Dyne with a Red in front would sound great though IMO.

Combo, I bought it from you! lol

Interesting, I have the Red Ecstasy (and LUV it for leads) and have been ironically gassing for the Electra Dyne for just what you say it excells at, cleans and mid to light crunch (and apparently pedal friendly as a bonus).

Really? Because I have serious gas for a Chupa/Yeti!!!

I guess I really need to find out how the 5153 50watts cleans and mid gains are, but all I ever hear mid gain wise is EVH which isn't really my thing, and how well it takes pedals too.

LMAO! Funny, eh?! I love my Chupa too! The Plexi mode on it is a killer pedal use option in its own right (the red blazes through it), I'm just looking for a different flavor to mix in with it and have a hunch the MESA ED would be a nice fit. I agree with the above though - the red pedal is not really aimed at modern tones, it's a bit too smooth and refined.

Yup

Don't waste your money on the Bogner pedal for the Ed, they're overkill for the red and blue mode. I've been using a BB Preamp or the MXR Custom Badass pedal, level set all the way up and gain low. Thing is, plug the combo into a 4x12 and it's another animal. I do have a black 1x12 combo now.

IMHO the 5153 will do the extreme modern metal, but the ED does everything else better.

I agree with the others than the bogner red is not really voiced for what you want, I see it overlapping more with the ED's gain channel.

You might consider the Bogner Ubershall pedal, though I read it has less gain than the red. It should have more the voicing you are looking for. Another good option would be the Blackstar HT-DistX. If you are really serious about modern metal though you may be just better off with a 5153 like you were thinking.

So you switch the boost off for clean and mid gain?

Crossing the Red off my list, thank you all for the input. I'm thinking I should just keep the Dyne, sell my Mesa 2x12 and Twin Reverb and pick up the III

I have a Mesa ED combo and I bought the Bogner blue pedal. As blackba mentioned, the gain structures are in the same neighborhood.
The ED is LOUD. I'm able to set the amp at 90 watts for that full warm clean that the ED is known for and use the Bogner pedal to get
the tone I want at any level plus the blue pedal has the convenience of the built in boost. Just my two cents.

If you stick with the ED and get a 5153 you'll be able to cover a LOT. With the boost pedal on it's great for leads and hard rock, off and you can get the mid gain stuff happening. Sure there's tap dancing but I did the same crap with a JCM800 and I could never get this huge bottom end with the 800's I had. I think this amp wasn't popular because it's LOUD and doesn't have a ton of preamp gain but it's got balls to spare.
