I've been listening to the new Whitesnake album and like the previous one, the tone that Beach and Aldrich have on these albums just rips!  Gotta love it!!!!

I agree. Aldrich is a bad ass guitar player. He was the quest guitar player on That Metal Show last weekend. His tone is sick.

I agree with the tones and I'm happy that Reb got more say in this one. Having said that, the four new songs on the live album were awesome, but the two full lengths leave me a little, meh? They're not bad, but compared to Dog or some of the other rockers on the Live disk, they just don't stack up.

I really dont like the tones on the new album or GTBB. :aww:

Good To Be Bad. I like both albums, but I really think the guitar sounds are messy. Woof!!!

I actually like both tone on the last two albums. It is beefy and lower mids which is cool for him and I think he does really well.

To That Metal Show he did sound good and he was using the JMD1 Marshall head. At least that what I saw behind him. Nobody talks about this amp since its release last year. IMO it slays the JVM or Slash amps. Even being a digital preamp I thought it sounds way better than a JVM.

Really can't stand the tones on those albums. Haven't even listened to them more than a couple times. The tone ruins it for me.

I like how someone said "woof".

I was wondering if Doug realized there was a bass player in the band.

Paul Gilbert has been pushing the JMD1. I got an e-mail from him a few months ago and he was telling me how much he liked it. Although he basically likes one setting on it only (#12?) or something.

I wish Paul would email me. He is probably like most of where we find something we like on an amp and we generally stick to it. When I heard it demoed by Doug himself and a guy from Marshall I think it had a lot of potential throughout the range. I would probably pick a set it and forget it too.

Paul and I are not friends, but I have e-mailed him 5 or 6 times asking general questions about a song, guitar, or amp and each time he has responded as if his only mission in life is to be courteous and approachable to his fans.

The demos on that amp sound good, but I don't know if I'll ever buy any new Marshall amp again. I can never seem to get close to the same tone out of them. I bought a JVM 410 a few years back and it was the worst amp ever.

I am a huge Aldrich fan, but am still having a hard time with the new Whitesnake. Thought GTBD was good, but not great. Doesn't touch his Lion, Burning Rain, BMR, or Dio stuff. The amps are the same, so it must be about production/engineering etc. I bet Coverdale is pushing for a different sound than say Dio was.

I have a JMD-1 and love it as a second/back-up amp. #12, as Gilbert was talking about is listed as "Detune". It was designed around the Mode 4. I think both descriptions are awful. This should be listed as "Razor metal". It is a sharp, piercing tone. Closer to Dimebag than a stock Marshall. I love playing with it with a slight delay. I copied Akira Takasaki's settings (he uses 12 as well) and the thing just rips.

The amp is great as you get a great sound, and has built in reverb, delay, and noise gate. The flanger and phaser suck. I use a TS-808 in front for a bit more warmth as well as an EVH phaser and BF-2. I have a nice clean sound with chorus set and the above. Sounds great.

I am sure Doug knows there is a bass player in the band. The tones are quite produced and more modern in production. I am guessing with Doug working with Suhr his guitar tones are amazing as always and his playing rules. The one song I have heard sounds rich and full of harmonic content. The leads are full and very sweet sounding, to each his own but I dig the tone big time....

Reb has been around for a long time but up until say 4-5 years ago was all this internet talk about aldrich. Never heard of him before then? Really shows how the rock star land scape is erroding. I guess what i am trying to convey is there isnt a rock guitar scene anymore but some wish there still was?

I usually love Aldrich's tone....but it is far too bassy and woofy on this new record IMHO. I love some of the tunes and playing but the tone is not good. In contrast, I thought his tone on the live Whitesnake record was great!

I guess you are correct, now there is just the auto tune scene and those of us who still like rock guitar has to live with what little bread crumbs we are thrown.

As far as only hearing of Doug recently I believe the Aldrich mod has been around a long time because well so has he. At least I have known of him for much longer than 4-5 years. Maybe he has not doing anything before then.....

That was kind of my point, his live tone is outstanding and I agree in regards to the live record being great in the tone department. The tone on the track I heard on this album is produced with a modern low mid bass heavy sound, but I seriously doubt that is Dougs actual guitar tone and live I bet it shines as well as Reb's.
