Is the latency better on the iPad apps? I tried a year or so ago and it was awful. I was using Amplitube and Ampkit.

Last I tried it was noticeable but still definitely useable for practice. It helps to use the low-latency mode, put the iphone/ipad in Airplane mode, and kill all other open apps. Amplitube's latency was noticeably better than JamUps for me, depending upon the effects being used.

So it's good enough to play along with tunes and learn them? That's my whole goal here. If it's lagging I'm going to get frustrated in a hurry.

For me, yeah, more than adequate. But I also have tin ears and slow hands so take that with a grain of salt...

Well crapola... guess I better borrow Henning's before I buy one.

Interested to hear what you think. I would love to use an iPhone app for practicing when I am on the go. If it is better than it was then I am back in.

Also, I'm gonna try the suggestion of Airplane mode with all the other apps off.

Another vote for Apogee Jam w/iPad. I personally don't experience any latency when playing and recording stuff through Garageband.

If your intent is to learn stuff- there's a fantastic slow-downer I use called Anytune Pro HQ. amazing clarity at the slowest of speeds. Lots of flexibility as far as looping sections, adjusting frequencies. Really user-friendly too. I think I paid $15-25 for the full version.
I haven't tried this feature of it yet, but it has LiveMix which allows you mix yourself in to play along with the tune. It's not a modeler though, so you'd have to go into something else into the Apogee to get your tone.

If you end up liking Steve's Apogee, message me. I'm considering selling mine to fund a small interface like a Duet 2 or RMC Babyface. :)

4:30am. You know you're not cool anymore when you wake up at 4:30am instead of going to bed at 4:30am stinking of weed and hooker spit.

Ha! I stopped being cool when I cut my hair to get a "real" job. I lost all my superhero powers at the same time.

Long hair just isn't hip anymore. Ever since Lorenzo Lamas cut his hair, it's just not the thing to have.

I use POD 2.0 or Pocket Pod for silent practicing or jamming along with MP3s. I also have a Fender G-DEC 30 (TONS OF FUN--takes an SD card and you can import tons of stuff AND use it as an interface with the Fender FUSE software) and a KORG Pandora 4 (stay away from the Pandora 5--the 4 sounds much better) because even though the tones in the Pocket Pod are better, the Pandora has a built-in rhythm trainer.

If you're an Apple guy borrow Steve's Apogee and see how that works for you.

If not, hit me up. I'm actually selling my Pocket Pod (since I scored the POD 2.0).

Vox Amplug and headphones, or a plug out to your little speakers

While I've been building my Iso-cab , I've been using my POD 2.0 and headphones. Quite a few models on there taboot.
