the question is the eqf-2 runs at a +4 level so what lunchbox to hook it up to look through a head and get to and from line level

Sorry to sound rude- but could you use some punctuation please? I can't understand a word of what you wrote.

What I do know is that +4dB is Line Level. Correct me if I am wrong.

wasn't to u, it was to the comment above on punctuation, class is in session

Most of those lunchbox modules were made for studio use and have XLR in/outs. You can use them in the FX loop of an amp, but you will need 1/4" TRS by XLR patch cables.

Thanks Steve. People have been telling me that the 500 units run on different line/gain levels and would I need some type of converter to get through the c+ loop? James used them in his live rigs as well in the pics posted on the boogie forum and probably on here too. Any thoughts?

I don't know. James' IIC+'s were modified though especially if he was bypass the GEQ and going straight to the Aphex's. It is easy to change the FX loop send levels if you wanted to experiment. You will just have to try it and see what they do. The older PQ3's have both hi/low in and out on the back end of them. Seems I am running them on the low inputs for the slave to the Marshall. The low levels from the FX loop would probably warrant using the high in/out.

There's a couple of Whirlwind boxes out and Radial too that can convert signal strength line/instrument probably. Or, you can get into the amps FX loop circuit and change resistors to increase or decrease the send range. Mike B. would probably talk to you at Mesa if you called him.

That's better, thank you.

Now I can see what you are after- replicating James Hetfield's mid-late 1980s guitar rig where he used the "B&B"/Aphex parametric equalisers.

I've read a comment from Flemming Rassmussen (who produced Master of Puppets and ...And Justice For All) that they had a custom home-made that would alter the signal level from the C+'s effects loop, send the signal to the parametric EQ, then change it back to the level required for the C+ effects loop return. I don't know the specifics of the levels, maybe the Aphex operated on instrument level (-10db)?, Or -5dB? Or something high like +20dB which would have clipped the effects return too much? I don't know.

I do whoever own an Alto 5-band parametric equaliser, that has an Input and Output level. It would basically do the same thing as those home-made signal level converters.
