Didn't really know where to post this, but I'm pulling the trigger on a custom build soon and was sure that i was going to get a suhr classic but now with the hype about luxxtone I'm not sure. I guess I'm looking to see if anyone can tell me about the difference in feel/tone between the suhr classics and luxxtone strats. I also would be getting a one piece roasted maple neck on the suhr and don't know if luxxtone does this or how big of a deal it'd be to just do without it. Any insight is appreciated

Definitely no hype on the luxxtone and suhr is rock solid, both are great people to deal with but I might be leaning towards the lux,dam they play nice

Too hard of a decision to make...walk away from both and get an Anderson

Suhrs and TAs are great guitars. Nice to be in the mix. Thanks, guys. :)

Both are awesome guitars, but Luxxtone gets my vote. I played a few and I really like them. Plus they look cool and Jerry is a great guy. The Luxxtone will be my next high end purchase.

sounds like luxxtones are getting the most love here, do you guys do roasted maple necks?

Tyler. Check them out as well, nice fat sounding and great neck.

Haven't played a Suhr Classic for comparison, but I would have a Luxxtone over any Charvel, Fender, or other similar S style guitar, so that would probably include Suhr for me. The Suhr I did own had baked maple and it was nice, no doubt. Jerry's necks and boards though are second to none in comfort. Like Reza said, it really depends on what you are after, as far as eye candy.

You really have to play them if at all possible. It all depends on how you play. I've played plenty of both and for me and the way I play Luxxtone all the way. Suhr guitars never feel right to me, I think they are really deigned for shedders, I am much more of a groove player and play hard, diggin in. Suhr's just feel weird to me, not sure if the action is always to low or the taper of the fretboard, I never feel there's anything to grab onto. The Luxxtone's feel perfect and inspire me to play. BUT again this is just my trip I know a lot of the instrumental guitar dudes love Suhr's. So it is apples and oranges.

YMMV

Both companies have great reputation albeit Suhr has been well-known for a longer and time and in more circles. I don't think Luxxtone does the fancy coffee table top neck and wood thing that Suhr offers.

Moi? I'm probably going to order a Luxxtone as soon as I can get my OCD under control and decide on the color(s) I want. Other than that I have the guitar spec'd out. Jerry's repuation is impeccable and Dave (Sharkdiver) is a man I would trust to babysit my kids (if they were small again).

Having owned three Suhrs I'd probably go for the Luxxtone. Just has the vibe I"m after, especially the HSS Strat!

Just curious, the vid with Phil X playing the Luxxtone in the Friedman vid... is that trem set floating or decked with 5 springs?

Have Jerry build you a Luxxtone. For a 100% handmade guitar, the price is right and the set up is better than anything out of a box. If you decide you don't like it, you can recoup your investment within a few hours of listing it. His guitars are sold before they get the neck bolted on. As for the others, resale is about half your investment and like watching grass grow to get rid of. Nothing wrong with production guitars mentioned in prior posts-but the market is saturated with them.

Did you have a change of heart on your Andersons?

Seems like it should be a fairly easy choice - I don't see a lot of overlap there. Luxxtone does the vintage hot rod stylized thing with their unique finishes and metalwork. Suhr does the custom superstrat-to-Modern thing. Which one do you prefer? Tricked out '69 Nova or a '12 M3? That should answer the question.

ps - not to argue with anybody in particular, but ALL guitars are handmade.
