So, here is what happened. I had a guitar up for sale/trade and a guy contacted my with an ESP Custom Shop that was built for and owned by George Lynch. I think he either contacted me through here on rigtalk or local Craigslist.
He told me he was friends with George Lynch and that he got this ESP from George. I went and met him locally and did a trade. He told me about how he got the guitar from George and that they are long time friends.
So I play the guitar for a while and decide to part with it. I posted it on rigtalk and the gear page and a couple guys jump in and say it’s not the same guitar George owned. The one I had had an extra volume pot, but, the extra pot was added for looks (guy I got it from told me it was for appearance), or to possibly disguise (this will make sense in a second) the guitar.
So, I sold it to a guy on the gear page who had a connection to George via a friend and he wanted to buy it and have Lynch sign it for him. Looks like George bought it back. Turns out it was taken from George during a show. He threw it into the audience when he got fired up and his crew wasn’t able to retrieve the guitar in time, and he saw someone running into the parking lot with the guitar!
Just discovered this. George says it from a run of two that were the only ones made.
It’s funny, how many people contacted me and how many different stories they had about the guitar, and each person was certain they were correct.
The guy I got it from, he said he got it directly from Lynch? Hmm…… or was he the dude in Idaho at the festival that grabbed it and went cruising out into the parking lot to make his escape? And added a volume knob to disguise the guitar a bit?
