Lynchback: Why no 16ohm?

So that you have to buy two of them for 2 x 12's !

This is the only reason I have not bought a 2 or 4 of these yet.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it has to do with the sound of an 8 ohm setup vs a 16 ohm setup. Lynch's last sig speaker (Super V) was also 8 ohm so I really wasn't surprised to see the Lynchback at 8 ohms. Killer speaker and sounds really good in an oversized 2x12, but I may pull the trigger on another pair to throw them all in my Soldano 4x12.

What difference does it make...1 speaker is 8 ohms, 2 are either 4 or 16 ohms depending on how they're wired, 4 can be 8 ohm (just like a 4x12 Marshall cab with 4 16 ohm speakers is still 16 ohm).

The difference it makes is that some people might like to mix it with 16 ohm speakers they already own.

Gottcha. Didn't think of the mixing aspect... I guess in that case you'd have to buy some 8 ohm speakers of the ones you already have (not a great solution, I know), or run wet/dry or wet/dry/wet with a couple of 2x12 cabs flanking your 4x12 cab and just load the cabs with only one speaker type I guess (also not a great solution, but do-able).

I have a pair of them in my Dr Z 2X12 cab that I use as my wet cab for my W/D set-up. I wish they would make a 16 ohm version since they are great speakers IMO. There appears to be some demand for them.

Is the voice coil unique to the Lynch's ?? If not, you could swap a 16 ohm voice coil from a comparable Celestion and have a 16 ohm version...a re-cone place could do it.

My beef is that i can't run two 8 ohm in a 2 x 12 and still run the amp at 8 ohm..

No but you can run it at 4 or 16 depending on how the cab is wired...or have 4 of them and run the amp at 8...

yeah but I could run two 16's at 8 ohm.. I guess this is kind of like the Spinal Tap Marshall argument... "yeah, but this one goes to eleven.."

I have two super V's as well.... not using them at the moment. For some reason I just wasn't gelling with them some days.. too much sizzle and crunch with brighter Marshalls for me. I'm on weber legacies now. I have an X pattern in a 4x12 with 2 RI greenbacks and legacies.Sounds great.

I have 4 Super Vs, they're great with super high gain (Diezel or Recto) stuff...

I don't understand the difference...

I'm really not trying to be a douche here at all, we've always gotten along, so please believe that...but why do you need a 2x12 in 8 ohm, when 4 or 16 is doable ? Are you running another 2x12 at 8 ohm with it ? So you'd set the amp at 4 ? Trying to understand...
