Mad Professor #1 pedal was designed to capture the Van halen 1 first album sound, released date sometime in May,2013.Only though Guitar Center and Musicians Friend.

Interesting..looks like a reverb blend knob. When you think about it though, anything marshallish with some verb and delay will get that sound close enough so don't blow your load over a pedal.

Creative to have the 'verb-ish aspect built into the pedal.

I wonder how similiar it is to the golden cello pedal they have out? Either way, I am currently looking for a verb pedal along with a delay and this might be worth waiting for. Sounds pretty killer in the clips.

I have the golden cello...the golden cello is an overdrive that has delay built into it...it's a great pedal....but the gain structure sounds nothing like this 1 pedal here in these vids....2 totally different pedals to my ears

Sounds great! I really dig the Mighty Red Distortion from MP also :)

Hmm...interesting. I am on the hunt for a Marshall-y gain pedal.

I wish I had a dollar for everything that was designed to capture the Van halen 1 first album sound.

What were they listening to VH I on? That didn't sound anything like VH. Great playing though. The pedal sounded good too, just nothing like VH.

I recently bought this pedal and recorded this demo about an hour after opening the box.... (check it out if you want)

Initially, I LOVED the pedal but after using it on a gig, I was really disappointed. I do almost all tone shaping with my volume knob. I didn't realize this at home when I was messing around but when you roll off the volume knob, it tracks REALLY badly. It almost sounds like trying to play chords with a Boss Octave Pedal (if that makes sense). I've been looking for answers and some say you have to put it first in the chain which I just tried. It helped a little but not much. I can't believe a company as highly regarded as Mad Professor would let it out of the factory with this defect. I don't have a bad unit either. I've heard other people say the same thing.
I'm not a Van Halen fan, really. I just loved the smooth overdrive. It really is an amazing pedal. If you're not a cat to use the volume knob, have at it. It KILLS. But if you're like me and you're constantly shaping with the knob, careful. lol... It's REALLY frustrating. I'm pretty close to returning it.
Too bad too... It really is an incredible sounding pedal.
Also, the reverb is great.... Makes me sad. I thought I'd solved some serious issues. lol...
Reverb pedals are hell unless you have an effects loop to run then through. Depending on what amp I'm able to get on the road, I'll have one but not always. And I can't always get reverb which is a necessity for me. Initially, this pedal solved every single problem. But that stupid volume knob issue ruined it all.

I'm new to this board but I've come here from time to time to get reviews.... Thought I'd share one of my own.

Sounds pretty close!! Might have to look into that one a little more... I think most guys forget that 99% of Eddie's sound is in his HANDS. I've heard so many guys play "Eruption", (myself included here...) and they can get the notes pretty spot-on, but it still doesn't sound right. Why? Because Eddie's tone is in his hands. His gear obviously plays a role, guys can dial his sound in almost on the nuggets, and some can get the attack pretty close... But there's always that missing element that makes Eddie... well, Eddie!! You can get the Charvel w/ the humbucker and the Plexi and all of that... But you're missing the main tone source regardless.... His fingers. THAT'S where the magic happens... The rest of the gear is trying to stay as transparent as possible to relay that sound from his brain to our ears...

I don't care about chasing VH tone. Never have, but that sounds great.

Agreed...same premise as the Golden Cello with a different gain voicing and added reverb instead of delay. Based on the vid, I'm sure somebody with the right touch and technique could get a convincing, "close-enough" approximation of VH tone.

Whether you're chasing VH or not, that's a nice sounding pedal. The reverb sounds crisp and and the overdrive itself is really tight sounding.
