Madison was an amp company not that well known but local in my state (Colorado). They were popular with some of the Death metal crowd. I had heard that even the solid state models were pretty damn good. I never got to try them out, always had an interest because of the semi local feel. Sucks that the economy has claimed yet another victim.

I heard some good stuff from Madison gear, but I had heard there were some reliability issue. Bummer.

did they go out of busness

Yep, out of bussiness. Really hate to see it happen to anyone. Look at the website and click on the Artist section. They had some fairly big names using them.

Man, that sucks! I hate that for Andy. I hope he gets everything back on track and that he can mend any strain on his life.

Yeah, that does suck. But don't blame it on the economy ;)

I agree. I've never played a Madison, but it seems they made a few poor business decisions.

I remember there was a big Madison dust-up a few years ago on HCAF but never actually knew what happened. Still, sucks seeing a small company go.

The thing I remember most is when they knowingly sent out amps with knobs that didn't work/weren't hooked up.

I remember that too. I seem to recall a respected tech saying the Madison divinity was just a cheap copy of the Marshall TSL100.

Useless knobs, copied circuits and the infamous duct-tape mod.

FWIW. I played a Divinity once and thought it was a pretty cool amp.

I heard one live once and thought it sounded great FWIW. I saw Madball a few years ago. Mitts was using Madison cabs and he had monstrous tone!

I have love for the cabs but not for the heads, they seemed to be sold on their looks more than their tone, and from what I remember, the Divinity did sound like a TSL. Alot of big names were using them I think. Overall, cool company, I really like the guy's attitude.. I don't think I could survive in the modern business world for this kind of industry though I don't think they're entirely to blame if his products weren't up to par..

Also there must have been some deal between Celestion and Madison because 70/80s are shit. (I know that sounds bigoted)

Well, it could not have helped any. To see the amount of empty buildings around here is scary. I have lived in Colorado since 87' and never recall seeing the massive amount of commercial property for sale. People are going under left and right.

Kind of like another small amp company I know sending out an amp with controls (pots) wired backwards? Not gonna say who it was because the guys seems very reputable. Shit happens, can't imagine this was a common thing.

You mean like everyother amp out there is a copy of something else? How practically every amp out there is a copy of a Bassman, 5150 is a SLO. Seems a though everyone is just puting there little twist on circuits that have been around for 50 yrs. No one is really reinventing the wheel here.
