I unexpectedly came across a Magnatone Super 59 head, and the only reason I tried it was because I wanted to see how it compared to the Tone King Royalist 45. As far as the Royalist 45 goes, well I was able to find a couple of real nice sounds, but the price was very discouraging. Still, if I wanted a classic sound all it's own and only needed a couple of really good sounds, the Royalist 45 might be a contender. Then I come across this Magnatone. I heard great things about the Varsity, but I'm just not into vintage tremolo amps, so I paid little attention to what Mangatone offers. However, I was very pleasantly surprised with what I heard from the Super 59. Basically, the Super 59 blows the Royalist 45 away. What a magnificent amplifier! This is not really in the range of amps I normally buy, but I've got some hard GAS for one right now.
