hello, new on here,

got my 40th coming up next month and am getting a second amp off my good lady wife and various other family members have thrown a bit of coin in for good measure. Still can't make my mind up though
i've kind of narrowed it down to a orange th30, h&k grandmeister36 and a budda superdrive 18 head.
I've got a laney lionheart 5 watt and some various modeling software, but it would be nice to have a bit more headroom and gain on tap.
it started off easy, but the more i look, the less i know. The internet can be your enemy at times.

HBD!
Spend some time cruising music stores & make it a fun exploration to see what "speaks" to you

What tones are you looking for?

decent cleans, more(pedal free) gain than the laney

Hi

I've had the TH30 and H&K 36. I loved the clean on the th30 but found the overdrive too fuzzy for my taste. The H and K didn't do it for me at all I found it too compressed sounding . Personally I'd try the Budda

it's the one i can't try unfortunately, it's not local at all. But it's a sweet deal(£665 new boxed, not b-stock/returned etc)
i tried the jim root lunchbox amp, wasn't overwhelmed compared to my laney.
i'm not set on any of these, but i'm set on a good tone and studio wattage.

Friedman BE-100

100watt. erm, not likely. i have no use what so ever for anything over 30 watts, even that is too much really. too much money too.

NAMM is around the corner. Might want to see what hits the market

Welcome aboard.

Wrong forum for any kind of "making your mind up time" unless you add in for a week or so.

Amazing clean and gain=Mesa Electra-Dyne

From the ones you named, I'd vote for the Budda.

HBD! The orange ones are really good but you dont have many options on eq,ports and such. The ENGL ironball can deliver huge gain without pedal IMO but i dunno about the cleans :P

I kind of always wanted a VHT/Fryette 50st, for a solid rock/gigging amp.

It's not about the wattage. It's about the tone and the features. You can get great tones at whisper volumes with the BE. Just because an amp has 100 watts on hand doesn't mean you have to be loud. Your most likely not even tapping into the full wattage of a 30 watt either. Too much $? What's your budget?

You're not gonna have a good time with the lack of EQ on that orange...out of what you listed, personally, I would go with the H&K.

I've put a £1000 limit on my spend, and anything from the Over the pond gets hammered for tax on the way here. A mark five is around $4200 in the uk.
way over what i want to spend. I've added a friedman pink taco and a bogner brixton to this list since finding an awesome new shop in germany.
