Hey guys

I just got a Mako Dorado from forum member Sevenstringer, amp showed up fast and I've never played one before so I was hesitant to try. I saw many clips on youtube but they did nothing for me. And honestly I've heard mixed things about these amps.

I got it yesterday but plugged it in for the first time at work and I have to say, HOLY SHIT. Plugged it into two Mesa 4x12s and I REALLY dig this tone. Everyone said they had a very dark tone but I didn't find that at all! The thing rips and cuts through like crazy! It's missing some stuff I need ouyt of an amp, but for what it is it's awesome! just thought I'd post that!

and it's point to point and the thing is a tank!

Cheers!

Congrats Chris

Its a one channel, low on features amp but how awesome is this awesomeness you're describing ? J.B.'s Dorado clips from years ago were great.

My old CHW Mako would have been a great amp had it more top end presence. The Mako 'feel' is outstanding, so creamy yet fairly tight at the same time.

Andrew designs his amps with V30s and uses EMGs....so if you arent at least using V30s, you are gonna struggle getting the presence you would expect.

Understood and tried it. The CHW crunch channel had plenty of that presence. The high gain channel seemed as though everything beyond 3KHz or so was sent through a low pass filter. Zero sparkle. I wish I could have communicated that better to Andrew at the time as I may have kept the amp as other aspects of it were great. Basically give the high gain channel some of the sparkle of its crunch channel.

He guys!

With the amp and cabs I was using and not my guitars, the amp still had a ton of top end presence for my ears! I liked the amp just fine, I dialled in a tone in about 2 seconds and found what I like right away!

I can't wait to try it with my rig! I'm actually pretty stoked, felt lost after I sold my other amp, but I don't feel so bad right now!

This thing SLAYS!

Cheers!

Awesome, great to hear that you're all set then

Congrats OP.

My only complaint is the amp case is so big. Also, on mine the Loop control acts like an additional presence and gain control combined, very nice.

Not with my Dorado. Plenty of everything.

Dorado is one nasty, cutting, biting, beast of an amp. Nuthin' quite like it out there, and if you keep it and dial it in (you know, get to know the amp), you'll definitely have your own thing going on...

Andrew's CS is top drawer as well. Always helpful, always timely. Seriously one of the nicest guys out there in the world of booteek style amps.
