Malmsteen "decoded" lesson

I am more impressed that he had time to work through all the music stuff and get into Yale. Guitar can be a bit distraction.

Episode 2 (Part 2 of Yngwie)..."Inside The Volcano" is up on YouTube.

If you're still a bit puzzled by the pick slanting concept, the animations in this one really clear things up.

just looked at that, pretty good. Been doing some of this but not consistently they way he has layed it out as a systematic approach. Interested in his Eric Johnson stuff coming up, which is mind blowing. As Steve said earlier, best $30 guitar lesson you can come across with some humor too.

He does talk a lot on some of his videos and maybe he does break it down as if it were master level physics but at the end of the day, he puts a lot of humour and time into his videos and they are worth watching even if you only pick up a few tips here or there.. the second video is very well done and presented. I have been sweeping that way all along unaware as to why. I don't do it for the rising force solo though and maybe that's why I feel I am so damn slo. He must be using two up strokes there two as opposed to an up-pull off-down , which was what I always did.

Does paying $30 give you more info than lessons that pop up on you tube? I read maybe tab etc?

I really recommend watching the Talking the Code: Season 2, Episode 1 video. Lots of very useful knowledge in that video if you are into that kind of analytical stuff. It's a little long but totally worth it. Very well spoken and explained.

too much talk...STFU and just show it...a picture/video is worth more the the million words he said in just under 3 fuckin minutes..aint nobody got no time for 91 minutes of blabbering...fuck I'd put a bullet in my own head if I had to sit through the whole thing LOL

I think that guy has a Vai "Crossroads" video that dissects the guitar showdown at the end of the movie between Vai and Ralph Macchio as well.  :)

I dunno....I watched some of his videos and the cat can play but damn does he ramble. He just talks in circles as if he is explaining the genesis of the universe. Dont get me wrong......he can play and Im sure you can dig value out of his videos but I personally cant listen to his endless pontificating.
totally agree  Troy has his chops down but a good teacher makes something complex simple, not the other way around.
Still, this series he does is great.

Some cool stuff here, another part of yjm's style that will be harder to decode is his economy picking....it doesn't get discussed as much but Malmsteen has some awesome economy picking and legato

He explains the economy picking and how he uses legato to allow his picking choices to work...

This guy is flat out awesome! Nobody has ever truly broken it down like this dude...bravo!

No matter who tries to break it down, nobody is Yngwie. The feel and timing is just not matched by copycats. Still great material though..he wouldn't be as special if everyone did what he did. I was just listening to Alcatrazz the other day, hot diggity could Malmsteen play. He is simply jaw dropping. The tone, the runs, the vibrato. Everything is so clear and it feels like it has so much purpose. He's definitely not anywhere close to that anymore. He can play and write some cool arpeggio sequences but nothing beats his playing when it was slower (but still super fast) and more melodic. Anyway, i just couldn't get over his rythm tone and leads. Gave me goose bumps. So f_cking killer.

Even Yngwie can't be Yngwie

I'll have to check out some of that Alcatrazz stuff...

Could be my dimensia kickin in but wasn t Vai in Alcatraz too after Yngwie? What a freakin lucky band. Oh and Clive from Maiden too right? I think that part of my youth is a bit obscured through the fog, or smoke, lol.

The vocals and song writing is not as strong on the Steeler and Alcatrazz albums but the rythm tones are chunky and the leads are amazing. Seriously worth checking out if you like Yngwie. I think his early 80's material is untouchable. No wonder so many guys wanted to play like him. Listen to some of the lead breaks on the Steeler stuff. Your jaw will be on the floor.
