Yes, it goes against the flipper grain here on the forum, but I've yet to see a thread on how boring it was to play through 6 4x12 cabs

I typically keep the same cabs and the Bogner 4X12s are my fav, but I sold that to downgrade to a 2X12 bought the Bogner OS 4X12. While I still have the Bogner OS 2X12 and a Dr Z 2x12, I had to get a 4x12 for the Cameron stuff and those cabs are great too and they are made by the same company that makes the Bogner cabs.

The only 4x12 is an angled Peavey 5150. I am not digging it completely with my DSL100, so I will have to pickup a "proper cab" sometime in the future. If anyone near Madison, WI has one, I am looking!

Those threads make for some good reading, watching the guys try and convince others that their 212 kills and sounds like a 412. Just isn't happening....

I like 4x12's and they do rock but I always seem to gravite back to my OS Bogner 2x12 and Mesa 2x12. For some reason I just seem to prefer the tone of 2x12's.

Not by the guy mixing at the board all the time. I have been asked to turn down before I had my guitar plugged in..... It is strange how much the eyes effect how people hear things ?

"More women" certainly caused me a few problems.... but that was a long time ago. I have enough problems with only one.

I prefer the sound of a pair of 4x12's side by side at most dB's .... I do not use my 2x12 much.

Me too. Bit of a drag at gigs when space is a concern though as I play thru a pair at home and usually just one at gigs. Many players have this notion that two 4X12s is too LOUD. Not louder per se... just BIGGER. WAY BIGGER!!! (Which = BETTER for me.)

Yes....FULLER sounding. Not much louder then when ran one 4X12....but definitely more WALL OF SOUND.

One 4X12 = ESSENTIAL for my tastes when playing rock/metal. TWO 4X12s = BETTER! I wouldn't mind running a stereo pair of two heads into FOUR 4X12s and seeing what that's all about. They'd all have to be on the floor level for my tastes. That's the live rig I daydream about when I dream of hitting the big stage where space and volume is less of a concern.

I will admit though, I have never really separated my two 4X12s and played them. Will have to try that spread option some time as it sounds like it's even bigger than when they're right next to each other. Unfortunately, my man cave is pretty cramped, and playing in a 5-peice band makes it hard to try there. So it'll have to be elsewhere that I try it. Actually, one thing I've considered doing is asking the other guitar player if he wants to put one of his 4X12s on my side of the stage and I'll put one of mine over on his, so we could each be pumping our sound out on both sides of the stage (PA be damned!). But I suppose the sound guy would HATE that setup and we'd probably both keep turning-up to try hear ourselves better. We'd be TWICE as loud by the end of the night as when we started!

I prefer all my speakers in one spot. I can kind of get the mix I want by moving around a little on stage. Half the time you can not hear what is going on anyway. So I learn all the material from hearing the snare & bass drum. So if nothing else I just close to the drummer. I do not mind the bass or other instruments on my side of the stage... but other peoples guitar cabs just make it difficult to hear what is going on for me pretty much always.

We sorta play in a Circle format all facing each other. It works well. My cabs are "the back"...spread out....
Bass player has his area basically all to the left of me facing me about 15 feet away. Drummer is right in front of me and slightly to the right. The Vocal PA is behind my rig facing us all. Works very well for the jam area space. Not sure how it would work playing out since I have no desire to play anywhere but the Man cave.
Sounds really good this way and its just a blast. No one is 'too loud' in the room. But we been tweaking this area for sound over the last 6 years. Think its finally 'perfect' for our needs.

I'm experimenting with wet/dry rig. 4x12 on the dry side and 2x12 the wet side. I like the width of the sound as you mentioned.

And it is only as loud as you turn it up....

I am really happy with my cabs I bought from Peter Mather out of Nashville (no I don't get a kickback!) he built me EXACTLY what I asked for, made sure I was happy with what I got and "Special Orders Don't Upset him"

7-8 Weeks lead time on custom work, he builds the Mojave cabs as well as other brands.

Russell and I are planning to A/B my Mather with his Uber... to see if there is a difference in sound.
