You read it here: Indiana will be the last state to legalize pot. If it isn't already?

The first one that opened was one of the first in the area. It became a tourist attraction for people several states over. Which on the surface sounds cool but people lined up for hours waiting to get in. Police had to stop and direct traffic in the middle of a 55mph highway way for months on end when it opened.
No one drove for hours, waited a couple more hours in line just to buy weed and drive a couple hours home with it. They smoked it here. People came here to get high and drive around. Accident numbers skyrocketed.

Then the competition came in. My town with a full time population few thousand people now has 8 dispensaries, 3 of which are on main street. Another blow to small town America. Land was cleared to build grow rooms. Thankfully one just shut down because it owes nearly a half million dollars in taxes to the state, but the ones that did pay, barely any of it went back into our town. Just another cash grab at the expense of neighborhoods.
I think Michigan is going through the changes. After legalization, certain towns seemed to have a dispensary on every corner and heavy traffic...but it's starting to swing the other way. Over-saturation meant lots of those businesses going under and closing, and that’s fine. There’s a happy medium but it seems supply and demand is the only regulator.
What this country really needs is way for LEOs to test drivers for it. AFAIK there is none.

I wasn't alive in the 70s, so I can't commiserate; however, I can say I miss the 80s. My only job as a youth in the 80s was to eat chicken nuggets, Swanson Salisbury steak with the family, open face roast beef sammiches, and watch Ghostbusters, He Man, Voltron (had to sneak that one in), Thundercats, Transformers, Go Bots, etc and play with toys. Now, I have to wake up, work, pay bills, bitch about it to you guys.

Dude, Beast Wars was the shit. Didn’t even come out until I was married to my first wife and running my own business. I waited to leave for work every day until after it was over. Lol.

And that is the abomination to your town?
You just described legal weed during/after covid everywhere it's legal.
Glad you were able to survive

Look to other countries. Canada has had legal cannabis since 2018 and there's no plague of stoned drivers causing deaths.

clearly that isn’t the case or people wouldn’t be making the pilgrimage here to walk about Main Street with a lit joint

Well you live in a corner of the state, close to borders of 2 other states. NY and CT don't care about MA, that's for sure.
If they are smoking in public, that is illegal as far as i know.
Are people still doing that, or was that just during covid?
