I was experimenting today.
I swapped a V30, a Weber H30 (with pre rola treatment), an English made Greenback reissue, a Heritage Greenback, and a Budda Phat speaker in the Budda SD18 combo and the H30 won hands down for what I like.
I did that with my Peters Polaris as well a while ago and the H30 sounded best in there too...that one was an Anniversary H30.

For gain and clean tones, it's pretty tough to beat.

That is all. :D

Did you record a clip? Gonna bring my SD80 to get repaired. I miss playing it.

I've tried over and over to like H30's. My #1 amp was even designed around them. I have tried H30 Anniversaries, Weber H30's, Mojotone Bv-30H, and WGS Reapers. They just don't get along with my ears.......they honk in a bad way (kazoo like) and lack warmth/body in the mids. Maybe my ears are just messed up. I will say that I have gotten great recorded tones from them, but they always bug me in the room. I MUCH prefer Vintage 30's and Greenbacks.

But it's always great when you find what works for you!

This for sure.

The high end was always too spiky for me.

I much prefer the v30

Aother vote against H30's here.. beautiful on cleans, but spikey and harsh on those highs and after 3 years i said enough is enough and super V's came to the rescue (thanks tone whore Lynch!). Them with my well worn in greenies is scrumptious.

I sort of found the same thing when I first tried them, but like you said, when miked up they sound great.
I used the Budda last night on a large gig and it sounded way better with the band. They just work miked up better than all my other spaeakers and that's basically what it's all about for me. :D

H30s are my faves right now. In one 4x12 I have 70th Annys in another 4x12 I have the 70th and Heritage mixed in an x pattern. I just love these speakers. The 70th have good upper mids while the Heritage have the syruppy mids. I sometimes hear the high treble spike in the Heritage (depending on the condition of my ears that day   ) but together these speakers balance out to gold.

Here's a quick clip...sorry for the VH wank. (why do I always play that riff when I test things)

I just think it's a nice rock tone, and I really like how the amp cleans up at the end of the clip, and gets sort of chimey with this speaker.

That was the 75 Hz version. They still have a good amount of low end.
I've never tried the bass cone version, but from clips I've heard it definately is thicker in the low mids, a little darker overall. Which you could compensate with the amps controls. I'd like to try that one some time.

The H30 is like taking a blanket off of a greenback, more forward in the higher mids and less high end sizzle.

I've had a splawn 2x12 w/ a H30 and Celestion 75 forever(in gear years). At the time(right after he was branding amps, instead of modding) he said it was the best combo for his modded Marshalls. I have had several other 2x12 and 4x12s, but never even think of getting rid of that cab...

I'll admit i probably didn't put enough hours on them, but thought the Chinese H30's i tried were terrible!

That sounds awesome Adam!
I really dig that great Marshall cab tone that I'm always chasing. Hard to describe, but it's got a bit of honk in the mids and that grind. The distortion doesn't come across as harsh. It's just crunchy. I'm going to have to try them. Weber H30s right? Any special features? Doping etc?

Edit... Nevermind, Pre-Rola doping.

I've tried them in a few cabs and either they take too long to break in for my patience or they're just not me. I need to confirm these because I've only had them in one cab each, but my faves have been the 65 watter and the CL80. Next would be V30's and maybe then greenbacks. Of course it all depends on the amp because I like the D412 with the Deliverance which doesn't even have Celestions.

An H30 may be the thing you've been looking for. They really grind with distortion, lots of overtones in the mids, I think they're thick sounding, where greenbacks are warmer with more low mids and slightly scooped in the high mids.

The Weber is a 1230 with the pre-rola treatment.

Edit....and by the way, I only had the gain on the Budda at noon on that clip.
H30's make the amp feel like it has more gain for some reason and you can back the gain down a bit and get more clarity which is pretty cool.
