Specially during the Pantera era....... fucking Pantera ROCKS man

Dude has some pipes on him for sure......too bad he's THE quintessential asshole of the earth.

In putting together a Pantera cover band last year one of the hardest positions i just could not seem to fill was a vocalist. He's a tough act to follow because it is more than just singing a note to a key - its a way of thinking on stage that goes with the flow/genre of the thrash/grove attitude of the band.

FWIW after his psychological failure after Dime was murdered i believe he'll never be the frontman he was in Pantera. Even if he wanted. He's the same person but now in a different mindset and grudges between the original band do not help it any. It has changed him as a person and also as a vocalist. It was a one time only ordeal.

I don't know how much an asshole PA is, his interviews vary a bit but he seems a decent guy. I think his issues with drugs, drink, and a simply lack of restraint got him in trouble. Some folks just don't have a filter or know when to say nothing.

This is what i was thinking,

No offense to all you die hard Pantera fans, I liked Vulgar and FBD quite a bit.

I saw Superjoint live and wanted to throw a beer at him, biggest washed up loser in the scene imo.

(mainly because he was trash talking Pantera during the set between songs and seemed like he was on heroin the whole time)

he was great until he started doing too much heroin.. those shows were sad

phil was only one of part of pantera

Only time I ever saw Pantera Live was in summer of 96 at Sandstone Amphitheatre outside of Kansas City about a month after Phil supposedly Od'd, Pretty sure he was fucked up and the band absolutely killed it, or so I remember (I was pretty fucked up myself, clean and sober for almost 9 yrs now....so my view could be skewed) :D

Yeah the band always killed it, it was sad when they had to sit around and listen to phils retarded rants... but I love Pantera. Got into em way before they got big.

His infamous onstage rants are quite possibly a good share of the reason he gets so much hate. Embarrasing to watch but I loved Pantera also, Down has some great stuff as well imo.

^^THIS^^. Phil's been THE quintessential asshole ever since hooking up with those junkies from Eyehategod.

A tortured mind if there ever was one. But he had to be that way so all of us could enjoy the insane genius of his vocals for just a bit. He is the one that has to suffer himself his entire life.

I saw him some years ago opening for Metallica w DOwn and I agree - he is a great frontman. He can bring the intensity without always having to scream all the time. He says cool shit and is funny a bit too. He just has "it" I think. I enjoyed him much more than Hetfield and Metallica (and they were pretty good). He came out and was like "Get the fuck up!!!" Pretty cool. I saw him years ago on the Vulgar tour. He was great then too.

He has had his share of issues, but I saw him last year with Down and he was on fucking point. As far as I know he has kicked the H. Down is a different type of band though. I thought he brought it on stage.

I love Pantera.Period.Every Record is awesome. So much energy crazyness aggression.Absolutely awesome.
Listen to the live record 101 live proof.
