So there's a Mark 3 rack mount and a mesa 412 for a grand I have a little extra cash wondering what you guys thought

Bonus if the head was Simul class and had all the footswitches.
But still a damn fair deal for both.
What color stripe is the head

Its either a blue or purple stripe I can't tell from the pictures pretty sure its blue. I don't know much about Mark3s so I am not sure if the simul class switch is on the front or back I have also never seen a rackmounted Mark3 so I am a bit thrown off by it

Rjf where would the the simul class switch be? The blue stripe supposedly means it has the same transformers as the MkIIC+ and is the most agressive of the Mark3s maybe the series? My knowledge is limited don't see many Mark3s that often.

Why don't you tell us since you claim you work part time as a Mesa tech somewhere. I'm sure any Mesa Reps reaction to that would be...

Sorry dannyeo I work part time for a local repair shop and its run by a licensed Mesa tech one of two that are within driving distance from me. I am by no means a technician myself I help with whatever he needs when I can because I do have a regular fulltime job. He works on amps, guitars, guitar cabs, and PA equipment. He also has a small lighting and sound company so he's got alot going on so I am sorry if I gave some kind of Mesa amp genius lol. I brought that up on another post because I have seen the inside of a few Mesa amps and others and he points out the build quality and differences of guitar amps. So I understand how much work Mesa puts into thier amps. For example he showed me that mesa boards are easier to work on because there are tiny holes at the solder points of the board in a mesa amp, so repairs at the solder points can be made easier then like a Blackstar amp. No again I am no amp tech i just help with what he needs and do some guitar setups or pick up swaps and I am still learning.

Ok but if the Mark III is functioning and the 4x12 in decent shape then grab it. As long as the Mark III has EQ and the 4x12 has the Mesa V30's then it's a heck of a deal.

Thanks for the link. I'm driving to pick it up tomorrow morning.

S Class switch is on the dar right back side. While blue stripe is awesome it does not have same tranny as IIC+. I recall it was the early no stripes with those trannys. I think,it was those with serial number under 1300 but I may be wrong. The Boogie Board would know.

And that's a great deal, IMO.

I don't think thats all that great of a deal.

Don't know about where you guys are at, but good shape recto cabs can be had for $500 on a pretty common basis.

$500 for the blue stripe is the question. You can see it's a simul class from the two different pairs of tubes (are you paying attention Brent?). Thing is..... it's ugly. It's a rackmount, not worth what a head version goes for by about $100 give or take. So say if it was a head version and he wanted $600. Still a good deal?

Yup. Early black stripe/dots had the IIC+ tranny. I thought my black dot Mark 3 had it but it's the export tranny (although just as big)

Oh my god I just noticed that I was too focused on the stripe when I looked at that picture thank you. Your right it is ugly and would be a tad frustrating being a rackmounted head possibly but I am gonna go try it out in person before I buy.

I have a rack mount blue stripe and ordered a 4 space rack headshell on Ebay for like $120. Looks great and is good quality. Rack mounted Mesa bolts right in. You could even get more rack spaces if you wanted to add some rack gear.

Blue stripes are the highest gain of all the Mark IIIs, and they have all the best features and tone, IMHO. That's why I have 2 of them.

The "no stripes" and many "black stripes/dots" have the Mark IIC+ Trannys. Your detective skills will also tell you I have a no stripe as well.

If you can get a Mark III and a cab for $1,000, it's probably already sold because this is a great deal...especially if this Mark III has a GEQ.

I'm on the Boogie Board too, and I see a ton of threads that you start here and over there. Brent, what amp are you looking to buy? What tones are you after? It seems like you're all over the place TBH. Last week it was a handful of threads about Rectos and trying to troubleshoot Rectos, and now it's Mark IIIs and trying to figure out if a Mark III has a specific tranny.

My advice is to not get hung up on what tranny a certain amp has. It's more of a collector thing. A great amp sounds great and a bad amp sounds bad. Period. If you didn't know, Mark IIC+s came with all sorts of trannys...from the exports, to Coliseums, to "100 watters", to "60 watters" and then throw into the mix that there are "full power" and simul-class options. By the time you figure out what tranny it has, someone else already bought it.

Go play it, see if you like it, and if it's close to what you want, then start a thread about what tones and features you want (ie. more gain than a Purple Stripe, less stiff than a Green Stripe, more warmth than a Red Stripe, ect.). This will help you out more, and we'll be able to help you better.
