Hi all

Here's a little demo I did of my Mesa Mk III+ with different pre amp tubes. First part of the video is with stock 2000's Mesa branded 12ax7's in V1 to V3 while second part is with TAD highgrades instead.

Let me know if you can hear a difference (it's subtle!) and what you think of the tone! Clips sound really bad on mobile phone speakers but somewhat decent on headphone/hifi speakers.

Since it's RT had to include some Randy and VH :)

That was fun to watch!

Solid tone the whole way through IMHO.

You are right, the difference is subtle. I think I like the tone in the first part a bit better. Seems to have a smidge more girth to my ears, but I would be happy with either.

Love me some Mesa Mark tone!

This video inspired me to make time and make a clip of my IIC+ soon :rock:

Nice video man! U gotta luv the mark III! To be honest, to this date not a single mic can do justice... I mean it's really difficult to record this beast. I'd suggest u get urself another mic so that u blend ;)

@mctallica1

Thank you! Yeah the 'stock' tubes (picked the best sounding ones out of the Mesa pre-amp tubes I had gathered at home) sound a bit thicker, but as you said either one is fine. I did notice a more noticeable improvement by switching from the Mesa EL34 to the TAD EL34, warmer sound overall, the Mesa's sounded a bit harsh to my ears (they seem to be of a different type, the Mesa's where thin and long while the TAd ones look like 6L6s) - video here was with TAD power tubes throughout.

@sotosprince

Thanks a lot! Definitely struggled to capture the sound in the room - sounded massive in person (wasn't exactly at bedroom volume :D). On this one I just used a senheiser e609, I bought an old sm57 that should be arriving soon so will try to blend both
