Other than V30s!

Been rockin' my Mark IV through a Marshall cab with 75s and V30s tonight. Then switched over to my MarshallAX cab with greenies and I've decided I don't like the 75/30 combo for either my Mark IV or DSL. It's just way to buzzy and harsh...Any suggestions?

Do you guys think a DSL would sound decent through either the EVLs or MC90's?

The EVL sounds great for leads and cleans. I do not like it for crunch much. I have never heard it with a DSL .... but some of the best sounds from the DSL are crunch sounds.

The MC90 always reminded me of the other Celestions with a better clean.

I do not think of the V30 as shrill. But that is one of the things I do not like about the 75.

It would be very hard to say what you would like with a IV. For what I do .... I like a 4x12 with V30 and H30 with the IV.

Myself ... I do not think any of these speakers sound bad with the amp. It would be more what sound I was going after.

I have a 4x12 cab with greenbacks and V30 that I like with my IV.

I have tried alot of speakers with my Mark IVA head, here is a list of ones I liked and disliked. But for the short version, I would replace the G12T-75's with some Warehouse ET-65's or Celestion G12-65's. The V30's will mix well with those and you have a cab that should work well with both amps.

Here are the cabs/speakers I liked (pretty much in order):
1. Mesa Halfback 412 (both sections closed) EVM-12L/MC90 (My marshall 2553 sounds great through this cab)
2. Mesa Halfback 412 (both sections closed) EVM-12L/Eminence MS-12
3. Marshall 1936 212 copy with CL80's
4. Mesa Halfback 212 (top open) MC-90's
5. Marshall 1936 212 copy with Warehouse ET-65's (currently use with my Marshall 2553, but sounds great with the mark IV)
6. 2 closed back 112s, one with CL80, one with V30 (Sounds good through just 1 112, either one)

Here is what I didn't care for (no real order):
1. Vox 212 with 2 G12H30's (opened back)
2. Fender Bandmaster 212 with 2 Weber 12A125A's (nice for clean though, open back)
3. Opened back 112 with Weber 12F150 (again nice for clean)
4. Mesa haflback 212 with 2 G12T-75's, top open
5. Marshall 1922 copy with mix of G12T-75 and V30 (horrible cab design)

Hope that helps a bit. I would lean toward closed back and stay away from G12T-75's for the mark IV....

Maybe it's the 75s that are so shrill but or maybe it's the V30s in a Marshall cab I don't like, I can't tell...all I know is I love the greenies in my MarshallAX 412 with both the DSL and Mark IV.

Thanks for the opinions! The only two cabs I have are the Marshalls JCM900 and AX both are closed back so no worries there. I'm trying to stay away from buying another 412 so I probably won't be picking up a Mesa cab although that would probably be ideal. You are not the first person two say 75's suck with the Mark IV so maybe it's just those two that need to go.
