Of course their next step will be to create some feel-good story/segment about Mark McGwire. They'll talk about his struggles in his personal life due to steroid use and then they'll scan across pictures on a mantle while playing their usual bullshit music. It's disgusting.

I heard on the radio yesterday that one of the ESPN writers immediately came out and said Mark McGwire now belongs in the Hall of Fame. Idiots

I meant a substance that made you ACTUALLY PLAY better, not improve your own perception of your shameful attempt

You know guys, to some extend it's us consumers. We want new world records on every Olympic 100m finale, even better athletes, higher jumps, longer pitches ... it puts a lot of pressure on the guys. And then they all use something, and rely on their medicine men to give them the right stuff that doesn't get them qualified. You blame the athlete, but it's actually his trainer/doctor that mixed him the wrong stuff or weren't up to speed with latest doping regulations.

I don't think McGuire did it for the attention at all. Ever since he was named as the new Cardinals hitting coach many of the locals have been on the fence and had a bad taste in their mouth over the steroid thing. I think everyone knew that he did it but was disappointed that he basically pleaded the fifth. I think the reason that he decided to come out and admit it was so that the after the dust settled he could focus on his new coaching job. My .02.

As long as teams like the Yankees keep getting 4 million people a year to go see them play them the players salaries are only going to get bigger.

There's people in this Country who can't pay their bills, sleep on the street, can't feed their kids, etc. But yet, there's still the guy who pays $2000 for a seat behind home plate at Yankee stadium for one game, pays $12 a beer, $60 for a shirt, and $20 on junk food ontop of the ticket. He's feeding the beast. If nobody showed up for the games then only then, would things change.
