IMO the new Alterbridge record is one the best of 2008

He forgot to mention that he plays with entirely too much delay as well. I've not heard one memorable solo from him. Extremely overrated IMO. Good to know that he actually gives a shit about important things like vibrato and feel now.

Can't say much about his lead playing, but I would be lying if I said I didn't think he wrote catchy riffs. Not too bad a rhythm player, IMO.

Agreed about bending a full step with vibrato and holding that pattern in key, it is very tough to get the muscle memory going. I fully understand Yngwie and his scaloped stuff now due to the fact it is easier.

I watched several parts from his new instructional video and he knows his stuff now. He can really tear it up.

He ought to be able to he has Cooley, Batio, Stetina and others as guests and says he tries to learn and jam with them everytime they're around each other.

I loved the last AB CD. I love his riffs and they have one of the best singers around. Catchy stuff.

sounds like a pretty humble guy...

he shit platinum discs with Creed so he could easily toot his own horn endlessly...

I really liked the first Alter Bridge. Down to My Last and Metalingus ripped all sorts of ass.

I like the AB stuff, and the Creed stuff  For some reason they are frowned at in metal circles, but I always thought they did pretty good, considering they came out, and did their own thing in the midst of the alternative onslaught, which I absolutley HATED. The guy has a great tone IMO. They were the anti-nirvana

I think he's gotten better at playing lead stuff since his Creed days. I admit I like some of his riffs/playing.

I never really gave them much of a chance.

I always thought of the singer as ripping off Eddie Vedder... not really avoiding the grunge thing, like you mentioned.

I guess we all have different ears.

I think the first AB album was really good. Tremonti plays some pretty wild stuff, at times I think that he's trying to say "Hey! I can really sort of play now!" There was a certain type of haphazzard awkwardness going on that seemed to work for some reason.

I really don't follow him, but I admire how he has continually tried to improve and apparently his DVD's are geared towards the beginning guitarist and there's nothing wrong with trying to get more people interested in guitar playing. He seems down-to-earth.

I ran into at NAMM several times and he was as nice and down to earht as could be. The first time I met him, he was just walking around checking stuff out like any regular guy and was coolas hell to anyone that approached him. The second time, he was walking around with Michael Angelo(Lord Helmet) and was again very cool while MA was umm..... different... I dont think he sucks but I never thought that he was great either though he sounds alot better these days..

I agree! It's funny how the fanboi's continually stuck up for him by posting videos of him playing real fast scales at soundcheck and acted like that was proof of how great he is. Turns out he knew he sucked all along. LOL

  I can only assume he means PAUL Stanley.

I think that his Alter Bridge work is outstanding. Blackbird is a great rock record. And it has been in heavy rotation in my iPOD since I bought it. Great riffs, killer vocals and good tone. What's not to like?!!?
