Mark V 25 vs Uberschall

Looking for opinions on the Uberschall (rev blue). I've never had the chance to play one but I've always been interested in them.

I have a Mark V 25 which I have been considering selling and maybe replacing with an Uber, but not sure if I will regret it. I find I'm preferring the larger sound of the Avenger at the moment, but that's 100w 6L6 v 25w EL84. Or maybe I should consider selling the Mark V 25 and getting something like a Mark V 90w, JP2C, Mark III, Mark IV etc.. I am no means unhappy with the Mark V 25, I just don't seem to be fully into it as I used to be.

Not sure if the Uber might be too similar to the Avenger. I do plan on picking up a VH4 at some point as well.

But I'm not sure if I will even like the Uber.. for example I don't really like 3ch Rectos, the JJ and Helios Eclipse among others.

My buddy had both a Mark V 90 and Rev Blue Uber at the same time, and actually let me borrow both when he went out of town for a few days.

I found I liked the Uberschall more at first glance, but I know the Mark V takes some time to get familiar with. The uber can actually get some nasty cutting mids when working with the presence control, which seems to act as more of a mid sweep than a high end presence.

The uberschall is tighter than a rectifier, BUT, I found I didn't like the low end. It's hard to describe, but the lows sounded very round, even though they were tight. I had a chance at a mint one for $1500 locally and I wanted to like it, but just didn't.

Think of it as in the ballaprk of a rectifier, but more polished.

The Uber is polished, but don't let that fool you into thinking its not aggressive. I just sold a rev blue after about a year with it. Phenomenal amp with tons of thick, round, tight low end. More so than just about any other amp I've owned save the Herbert.

KT77s in the Uber kill as do E34Ls. Throw some Chinese preamp tubes and that amp will flat our roar, but again it roars in a more polished way. Not a raw punchy amp say like a Wizard, but more of a polished "generic metal tone" kind of thing if that makes sense. Smooth vs. raw is the best way I can think to describe it.

Perhaps an Engl Savage then?
Almost the epitome of raw/aggressive and tight, without the dryness of a VHT/Fryette.

saying this as I have an Mark V:25 next to a Savage 60 and the Savage gets way more playtime nowadays, even though the Mark is no slouch either and has one of the best clean channels evah.

My Rev 2 Uberschall is anything but polished. I removed a single cap from V1 preamp tube and it opened up the amp a lot and got rid of that funky bottom end. With a VFE Dragon or Standout out front the amp pisses on lots of other boutique amps.

If you like the Mark 25 but not the small footprint, try a Mark IV or a JP2C..or if you want to go the distance with the Mark tone go all out and grab a real vintage C+.
I had a few minutes with a used Uber at a GC long ago, but the little time with it I didn't find it very polished...I had it dialed in fairly raw and open sounding. Pretty nice amp. But no clue as to which version it was.
