Yea Whats worse than 2 EL84s? 4 EL84s! I'm not falling for another EL84 POS.

i am all about anything new from mesa, but i am not sure what their intent was here. adding a couple more 84's and 10 watts, along with a couple other small changes (solo boost) and a mid switch for $400 more doesn't add up. basically, all the V.25's just went obsolete.

Yeah, I fail to see the point of this amp since they already offered a 25 watt Mark V. I think it's great that there's options available, but I'd rather see a Mark VI than a Mark V:35. I'm just not seeing the reason for this. I'm sure there is a reason they released it, but I'm not seeing it.

it's a strange move, why not just 2 6l6/5881 35/40 watt version

I'm hoping that Mesa have secretly been working on a new design with midi switching, courtesy of Mario Marino. They must've been thinking of this when they brought him on board. Imagine actually being able to use all of the voicings available in a Boogie head as stored presets.

I'm sure the 35 is a nice sounding amp but I bet they have something much bigger in the works.

from the comments on youtube by the rep people may get their wish of a 50 6l6

he commented time to go octal (bigger glass)

Someone asked about bigger Recto to and he said something to the affect of What a great idea

would be cool if they did incorporate Midi from Mario But I am sure thats for the next flagship ,they have been successful with the compact though you could see 50 watt full load new design

I'm guessing a Mark VI is still years and years away. Look how long it took them to release a Mark V after the Mark IV. I agree, though, a 45 watter with 6l6's would have been waaaaay better than this.

I wish they'd go the other way and do an amp with KT-88's either mark or recto.

It's just easier for them to take an existing platform and change the power section.

I want to see something from them that screams. I don't give two shits about fender cleans and SRV lead tones and classic rock tones. YAWN.

Same!

Not much experience with EL84's. What's the problem? Reliability?

In my experience with volume and/or high gain they tend to get mushy on the low end and breakup undesirably. They sound great for clean and mid-gain tones though.

Last question, don't mean to derail the thread...what about Brian May? How does he get such a killer sound out of EL84's?
