I think it's time to re-tube my Marsha. It's a Metro-12000 series (100 Watt) with the Kitchen Sink Mod (BE, HBE, FAT, and SAT switches, simple FX loop (no tube)).

So, I need 4 power tubes and how many preamp tubes, 4?
I know I could open it up, but the amp is in our practice space right now, and I am ready to order the tubes.

Thanks

Tommy

Probably don't need to do the preamps. 4 of each though.

OK, got the new tubes, opened up the amp, and there are 5 pre-amp tubes. Looking at the back of the amp with the back panel off, from left to right, what would be the function of each pre-amp tube? Is one maybe a tube rectifier?

The Metro won't have a tube rectifier. And you say there's 5 preamp tubes? :confused:Why don't you post a picture?

The amp is back at the practice space. I replaced and biased the power tubes, but left the preamp tubes alone for now. but, yes there are five 12ax7s in there. I will take a pic at next rehearsal (Mon.).

OK, I think I have solved my mystery of the extra tube. I think it's for my FX send/return. When I bought the amp, I sent it to Dave for a simple FX loop with no level, and the new OT. Looking at the amp today, the tube is wired into the return jack. So, I was mistaken to say my FX loop wasn't tube buffered.....

There is an EC83S in the Left (V1?) or first tube socket. So, Should I replace it with the same or a 12ax7? The rest are 12ax7s.

What might be the tonal differences of having an EC83S versus 12ax7 in V1?

They're the same tube so either will work.
