I've said it 18 bazillion times, watch the After Hours videos and then come back and tell me how horrible Randy Rhoads guitar tone was for 1980-1981. Seriously.

How his tone was for 1980-1981 is totally irrelevant in today's world. Today we have the option of so many different amps that there is no reason to have bad tone in the name of nostalgia.
I think this is probably the dumbest thing I've ever read on the 'net.

Welcome tp the wonderfull world of Odin. I hope to God that this guy was kidding about being a cop because I can't see how anyone would give this guy a gun especially with his reasoning skills or should I say lack of.......

Well, that was cool except the amp was not turned loud enough, you can hear Aldrich wacking the strings... NOT LOUD!

When I first read that I was thinking WTH is this guy talking about and I think I read it wrong. I think what he means is that now in 2008, with all the choices that we have available to us, why would we go out and try and duplicate Randy's tone? I mean Randy's tone certainly is controversial these days.

I know I won't replicate RR's tone just because I have this amp. It sounded great in the video.

But then again there are guys that like Boogies, Bogners, Fuchs etc...... Its a good thing there are so many current amps out there to get bad tone with....

Yeah its too bad there are only those few songs on the After Hours stuff.

I like the tones on Diary. I wish you could have been to the show I was at getting blasted by stage volume....it was very cool!

To this day, I think somewhere exists some high quality footage from some of the shows. I just find it hard to believe that no one professionally filmed any of Ozzy's shows during that time period. Even the Entertainment Tonight footage, there is probably a lot more where that came from.
That would be cool if there is....

Of course that's what I meant..that's what I wrote. I'm not sure what other conclusions someone could make, but that is exactly what I meant.

Tone is highly subjective, so some folks might love the tone RR had on those Ozzy records. To my ears, that RR amp sounded very much like his recorded tone on the Ozzy records and I don't like that tone.

If someone loves RR's recorded tone from those days then great, but I don't like it and as much as I like RR's playing I would never want to buy an amp that sounded like his recorded tone in his Ozzy years.

Ya... Diary is my fav RR tone for sure!!
It's bright and kinda buzzy but not at all like Blizzard!
It fits the songs and cooks!
Love the songs on Diary too!!

Ouch, that was painful. It's no secret that I absolutely hate Randy's tone on the studio Ozzy records and that amp sounds just like it to me. Man, I really dislike that tone. lol...

No offense to anyone that likes it. At least the stacks look cool. :)

Chris
Do you dislike the After Hours stuff too? Just curious.

Remind me again why you are my Ibanez / Schecter connection??? :D

BTW set up the 550 yesterday and christ I have the action just slammed to the board, very nice neck!

I can't say I have ever heard doug sound really good when he isn't playing through his own rig. His playing isn't bad or anything he just never ends up with good tone when I hear him playing through different amps.

I don't know if I've heard any of that... That's why I was sure to keep my comments in reference to the recorded tone on the album. :)

Is the "After Hours" stuff those 2 or 3 live songs I've seen with Rudy on bass that are shot in a film studio or something? If so, I'd have to watch them again.
Yeah there is three or four tunes with Rudy on bass. You may still not like it, but its alittle more accurate to what I heard live.
