So I just borrowed this '69 Plexi head and by the way I'm not crazy for old gear, I like many new guitars and amps and I do like some old stuff too but I don't have this gas just because something is considered vintage gear.

That being said, I was blown away by the sound of this amp. It's actually pretty clean tone but it's so natural sounding, so dynamic, it's like having two channels, one set clean and another one set semi clean but the channel switching is actually the guitar volume. The amp cleans up perfectly, amazing. Maybe because it's not that overdriven... I didn't use the small cable to bridge the channels for this clip.

The amp is suppose to be in its original specs, no mods or anything.

Sinal path - Suhr Tele direct into the amp, everything on ten except the presence knob (set to zero). Speaker output to a Suhr Line Out, then to an API mic pre into Pro Tools and a parallel cable from the Suhr DI to a load box. A guitar cab plugin loaded on Pro Tools and a little slap and reverb were added also.

I almost forgot to ask this, does anybody knows a cool place in Orlando, FL to buy some gear? I'll be there on February and I gotta go some place else other than Guitar Center...

Take care.

Vinicius Rosa.

cool clip... and, unfortunately in central florida most cool places went out of business after the 2008 economic collapse. the last cool place was the gutiar den in orlando. there may be some places in south florida still... uncertain though

I bought a guitar from the Guitar Den, I still have the tee shirt they gave me. That was a cool store.

Thanks man. And I checked Guitar Den's website but there isn't much gear info. Maybe that one went out of business too... Thanks anyway.

Sounds right to me. Nice clip.

I have a 69 plexi, as well. Best tone/amp I have ever had. Louder than every amp I have ever had, too.
Loves the singles.

These amps are great for that organic, dynamic tone. A lot of 80s guys will be looking for EVH when plexi is spoken, but these amps sound awesome when it's not being pushed too.

What are you using for cab sims and load box?

The cab sim is, believe or not, the Waves GTR amp plugin with the head bypassed. Only a 4x12 or 2x12 cab with the 57 mic. Nothing against Waves at all, but I have all RedWirez IRs (suppose to be amazing ones) though I still keep going back to the GTR cab sim.

The load box isn't doing much because the guitar sounds that goes to Pro Tools is coming from the Suhr Line Out, which is before the load box on the signal chain. I used an old Marshall Power Break for this and it works great, it's pretty cool since it has an 8 ohm and 16 ohm impedance selector (most load boxes I know don't have it).

Vini, always love the playing in your clips, thanks very much for posting! Tone was pretty fantastic as well!

Nice playing  It sounded way too clean, if volume was on 10. Almost every 69-72 superlead I've ever played is a complete firebreather on 10. Even with a Strat or Tele. Mind you most of them I have the presence almost all the way up because if often gives you the bite you need when the volume is on 7 or higher and the amp really is shelving the top end in a big way from compression.

I just found out this head is actually from '73, not '69. But I think it sounds cleaner because the amp is too old and probably someone already tweaked something, still it has a pretty natural breakup tone. I wonder if the new Plexis Marshall makes sounds like this. Anybody tried them?
