Although the Fortin and Friedman mods I have heard all sounded great, I guess I like being different.  David should be gettin my 800 next week. My question for those who own or have owned one of his amps is, Do I want the Mod I or ModII. I have heard clips and they both sound awsome. I like a good Lynch/Demartini flavor, a typical sunset strip modded tone. I guess the Mod II gets a little more gain so I'm leaning towards it. Input is welcome.

I have 2 Bray Modded Marshall's. Go with the mod I. There's plenty of gain and the tone will be prefect for '80's metal. Go for the second footswitchable MV also. It's great for a solo channel. You'll love it. Dave is a great guy to work with.

Thanks for the advice. Are both your Bray's ModI ? how would you compare the two?

I have a mod II and it has more gain then a mod I, yet it isn't really a high gain amp, you might want to get a hold of dave and discuss what your really after tone wise, so you don't get what you might regret

Well that definately what I plan on doing. When the amp lands I plan on bugging him often   After I pick his brain hopefully I will make the right choice. So for the modII are we talkin Cali mod gain ? I know it is not a super high gain metal sound, which is not what I'm goin for. I imagine it would be similiar to the Cameron HG jose I used to have ?

Here's a clip of one of my amps. It has the Bray I Mod.

The Mod 1 isn't going to be close to the Cali or HG Jose. Go for the 3 or Panther (or whatever it's called).

great flavor huh?

good luck with your mod. I have a JTM45 he built that I really love. Very nice amp.

Thanks guys, Dave sends clips before the amp actually ships so I guess I can make a few changes on the fly. Should be fun.

Yea, he's really good at tweeking it to your likeing. Let us know how it turns out.

I will man, thanks for posting your clip. Was the gain maxed??? If you dont mind me asking, what mod is your other Bray?? How does it take to boosts?

That was the clip Dave sent me so I'm not sure if he had the gain maxed or not but it sounds pretty close.

I had him do the Mod I to both of my amps. That's plenty of gain for the stuff I do. Sounds to be pretty much the same style you're into.

As far as boost's, the amp takes them well. I've got a Keeley Modded TS-808 and a Keeley Modded SD-1 and they both sound fantastic.

I had a Bray Panther mod. It had an insane amount of gain but it was noisy as all hell. As a result, I never used that setting. I bought it like that used out of curiosity. Although, it did sound awesome with the lower gain settings. If I was having Dave mod an amp for me, I would get the Mod II. If that is too much gain, you can always dial it down to taste. Better to have it and not need it than vice-versa.

The Mod II is voiced slightly different than the Mod I so you can't just turn the gain down and have the same tone.

Thats my concern LP. I dont know enough about the mod II, it seems you hear way more mod I clips. I dont want to venture to deep into modern territory but I still want to get "that sound".

Agreed, but Bray's mod's all have that very distinct "Bray" voicing with only a "slight" difference between the different mods. So even with the higher gain option turned back, your tone will still be unmistakably Bray. I guess it all depends on which voicing you're after. But they all sound VERY similar.

I'm thinkin the mod II with the vintage /hot switch should be plenty. I guess I could stop all this guessing and talk to Dave next week :D
