i want to get a new amp & i`ve narrowed it down to 2 amps but i`m torn between the marshall 2555x or the smallbox 50,i`ve had several marshalls but i really like how the smallpox sounds,i was curious if the 2555x would sound thin compared to the friedman,i`ve never had a plexi sounding amp but i always love that sound,i would get a marshall plexi but i don`t wanna have to crack it to 10 every time i play ,thanks for any opinions

THE SMALLBOX. I owned a 50 watt Jubilee head back in the day and now own a Smallbox. The Smallbox will beat the Marshall all day long. I was down to the same amp choices as you before I bought my Friedman. I could not be any happier with it. I also just found the Ronni Le Tekro trick of using an old Boss BF2 Flanger with the Manual knob cranked and the rest of the knobs all the way down. The BF2 acts more like an EQ than a flange when set like this. It was Le Tekro's always on secret weapon pedal. It plays very well with both Smallbox channels and my overdrives.

thank you for your input,i have been leaning towards the smallbox,i do appreciate your thoughts & your tips on the pedal trick

I have a SB and the other guitar player in my band has a jubilee. The SB is warmer, thicker and more punchy. The jubilee is more upper mid focused with sizzle and crunch. I much prefer the SB.

agree with this - i don't think its one is 'better' than the other or that one 'beats' the other (come on).

the jubilee will have more of the upper mid and sizzle, if one wants that. the smallbox is going to have that Friedman DNA that is addictive.

I realize that Doug Rappaport could make anything sound good, but go to the 10:20 mark to hear Doug demo the Smallbox. These are just some of the kinds of tones this amp is capable of. I will pick my Smallbox over my old Jubilee head any day or over any Marshall I have owned, including my YJM100.
