I was never a fan of Friedman amps because they just weren't raw enough. Enter the JEL-50. This is the tone I have in my head. The kerrang is there on the plexi channel. The Jake channel is all JCM 800, gain pulled is hot rod JCM 800. Effects loop is perfect. This amp has low end punch without getting too woofy. I think this is the perfect 2 channel (Plexi and JCM800) amp out there. Boosting with a SD-1 just adds the icing on the cake on the Jake channel. Boosting the Plexi side with a Soldano SLO deluxe pedal really transforms this amp into a 4 channel amp.

Congrats on your new amp day!

I get that it's the same but different, but I have the IR-J and it's the tone I hear in my head.
Th plexi side is perfect for me, and the built in boost is a TS style which works great.

The second channel is just awesome!
I do use it in the lower gain mode, but with the TS style boost, that gets me into the highest gain Id probably ever use.

I also have my old SD-1 sitting next to it, but haven't tried it yet.

The loop works great with my delay, reverb and chorus.

I gotta get it plugged into my PS2 thru my cab though, I'm sure it will be glorious.

I do realize it's probably not exactly like your 50 watt head.

On a side note, Dave Friedman says my amp mods are almost done...:ROFLMAO:

Friedman amps have the best loops I've ever heard. You won't even know there's a loop because there is no difference in tone.

I want to try JEL50, but now that the Jose is out, I'm more interested in the Jose. I had Dave add a mod to my BE50 that gives it something very close to the JEL50. Like you said, it adds some extra tubbiness or bottom end that an 800 has, but without being too flubby. It also adds some of those higher end frequencies that are missing in the regular BE channel. I put it up for sale last month, but I may just hold onto it. Some people told me privately that he owns both the BE50 and the Jose, and he said he would rather keep the BE50 because it's more versitile. I guess it depends if you live on the high gain channel.

I look forward to hearing a comparison between the Jose and the JEL-50.

Congrats on the JEL. and yes, that two channel SLO pedal is really great!
