FYI - I posted this question on my "Help Me Build a Rack Rig" thread, but thought I would get answers faster this way. Apologies in advance for a "dual" posting...

I got a line on a Marshall 9200 for $799 that is reportedly in "pristine" condition. The catch is that it is over 550 miles away and the store that has it has a "no shipping" policy for tube amps. Although there are other amp options (Mesa / Fryette), I would prefer to have a Marshall for this rig. Is the 9200 worth that kind of money if it is in the advertised condition? Would it be worth driving to get (1000+ miles round-trip, maybe a night in a hotel...)? They don't seem to be for sale very often and the ones I've seen were abused.

Thanks...

I just sold a Marshall EL34 100/100 to a fellow Rig Talker for $750.00. It was literally mint, except the top cover had some minor scuffing. If the top cover didn't have scuffing probably could have gotten another $50.00 - $100.00?

Anyways it's a killer power amp!

Get a Mesa Strategy 400 if you can I hear the Marshall 9200 were not built well and broke easily as in solder joints etc.

Someone can correct me if I am wrong but that is what I heard on another forum about the 9200 I never owned the 9200, I know Dave Mustaine had reliability issues with his as well...

Wow, $750  I was considering selling mine since I never use it. Like yours, mine is mint and could pass for being new...even the original tubes look new. I would never sell it for less than $900-$1,000. It is worth more to keep it. :D I paid $1899 for it 5 years ago.

Mine wasn't mint, if it was I wouldn't of sold it for that!

IMO Thats an insane price, they go for like $500-600 max here. Then again I'm in an area where the economy is absolutely crushed :aww: Actually I bought one last year for $400, I wound up trading it for an old American Guild acoustic

that's too much for one with 5881's, and middle to low price range for one with el-34's.

All - thanks for the responses. Much appreciated
I would have to jump through hoops or drive a considerable distance to get this one. Based on the responses, it doesn't sound like the best idea. I originally wanted a 9100 but was willing to up the ante to the 9200 if it was worth it. $799 is the asking price so I assume I could get them a little lower, but even at that, it sounds like I could do as well or better for a similar condition unit.

I am waiting (and waiting  ) for tracking info for an MP-1 and Replifex from another forum member that already has my money... I think I'll post a Want To Buy thread for an amp once that issue clears. I would like a Marshall, but I also have the Mesa 2:90 and VHT/Fryette 2/50/2 on my "possible" list.

Rock On

i've got one with 5881's that i'd maybe sell?

gonna go play it again and decide. i offered it to a guy a few weeks ago.

the bad salesman part of me will tell you that atleast where i'm slaving, i'm liking a power amp that has both depth and presence controls. running with a preamp might be deferent?

positives of the 9200 are that it's mono block, negative = mono block makes it weight a ton.
